Annoyances which disturb your crafting

I had one of those “International out of area” calls the other day. I answered it in rather a bored, irritated voice -not actually expecting a real person to be on the other end.

There was. It was a customer, in France, friend of a friend, wanting a suncatcher.

That’s why I do always take the calls, even when they are international or ‘number withheld’…
but boy oh boy do I get cross when it’s someone trying to tell me that ‘according to the national database’ (no idea what comes after that as I always cut them off).especially when I was just negotiating my way round a fiddly bit of soldering

My own flipping iPad and computer, I just can’t seem to leave them alone and think I suffer from FOMA!!! (frightened of missing anything)

My annoyance is that my brain won’t let me make anything til the house works is done…and also that I make such a mess as I make things it takes twice as long lol get too excited and scatter stuff everywhere. Texts are nt helpful either! X

recent-ish, i was getting harrassed by someone from one of those international out of area numbers. the same guy would ring 2 or 3 times a day every day. super annoying!
i eventually put a stop to it with a dog whistle.
but imagine if i’d deafened a potential customer

For me it’s doorstep salesmen - cavity wall insulation, replacement double glazing, loft insulation, political canvassers. My record is three in an hour, when I was in the middle of a fiddly bit of course! I do try to be polite, I know they are just trying to make a living too, but grrr.

How to get rid of telemarketers…hope I’m allowed to post a link to youtube here!

If not, go to Youtube, then type

How to deal with a Telemarketer by Tom Mabe

into the search box and it’ll find the audio recording.

I nearly died of laughter…

Brilliant - I just shared it on my facebook page.

I once tried to get rid of one, a woman with a strong Lancashire accent from a call centre on a withheld number by being ‘very posh’ and ‘not very polite’.
She phoned me back (no doubt it was her) every 10 minutes for about 5 hours.
Some you can’t win.

My other half has found a good way to get rid of the unwanted callers. He just says hes a bit busy right now, and could they leave him a number to call them back. That throws them completely. Some just put the phone down. Some say they’ll call him back later, but he insists he wants to call them and then they put the phone down. One gave out a false number, and called back within 5 minutes to say my other half hasn’t called back. So my other half told him the number was wrong and he wanted a correct number. The bloke put the phone down.

I’m not sure why they don’t want you having a number through to them. I guess these call centres aren’t set up for incoming calls. It’s a very quick way of getting rid though.

They don’t want you to have their number because, if like me, you are registered to ban unsolicited calls via Telephone Preference service, they are illegal in calling you. When i get cross enough with them and they do register a number on my phone I do report them !

PS Think I might try that approach of asking for the number - at least I might as well have some fun with them while getting aggravated.

Maybe they’re worried that he wanted to report them to the telephone preference service

Course it is. I knew that. If I’d had thought about it. We are registered with the TPS lot, so that’d be why they get off the phone sharpish.

Phone calls (always selling something), unexpected visitors and of course children - usually my own and beginning their sentence with, “MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM!” at the top of their voices!

It’s a him… they always have the same old chat up lines

My other half suggested setting the smoke alarm off down the phone, but I’m not that cruel! What I usually do is just put the receiver down next to the tv or radio, whichever happens to be on, and leave it there. They sound confused for a minute or two, then go away. They’ve never phoned back so far…!

I have registered for TPS but the link below is different and i have noticed a big difference in reduction of nuisance calls.

My major annoyance is CityLink.
On the weekend my sewing machine went caput.
I ordered a new one to be delivered ASAP on Monday.
Monday came and went with no machine.
I was assured it would arrive yesterday.
Yesterday came and went with no machine.
CityLink put the phone down on John Lewis when they queried it.
Today, I am assured it will be delivered.
Meanwhile, I am a sewing business with no machine.

That must be stressful, I know how I feel if my printer starts playing up or even my computer

I find the most annoying thing is having anything that interferes with my knitting, for example - hate it when I have to prepare a meal, answer the phone, answer the door. The only thing I am happy to stop for is if my little dogs want a cuddle or walk. Selfish me? Never! Lol!

Oh no. Today the strimmer and lawn mower were ours.

I did have a nicer distraction though.
As Bob had opened the big garage door (while strimming !) a baby blackbird flew in and took refuge right up in a corner of our big, tall garage on a shelf above the paint pots.
Really young, no tail feathers and have to say it took a bit of persuading to leave - we had to get it out as we were going out and needed to shut the garage door. Didn’t like to think what it might do to my workbench, right under the window, if we left it shut it.
Now reunited with its Mum
