Is anyone watching Landscape Artist of the Year on TV. I have watched itfor years now and used to be able to judge the last 3 and winner before they announced it. Now I am not sure what they are looking for. I know the beauty of art is different for eveybody but i cant see how some folk get through.
Like you have always watched it and the portrait one. Don’t bother now as the ones I like never get through and do not understand how they judge the ones that do!

Sky arts. Also portrait artist of the year with celebrities sitting. You can tell from their faces what they sometimes think.

you are all saying exactly what we think when we watch these. I feel so sorry for some of the celebs - as you say it must be very difficult sometimes to think of something positive to say to some of the contestants without being rude!! I feel with a portrait you should be able to say who it is at the end but quite often that is not possible 
Looking at the paintings they send in we do wonder how they get onto the show, and we have seen some absolutely amazing portraits gazzumped by weird blue or green or striped or scribbled ones

I cannot understand how any nice people could put themselves through this process…being torn apart and humiliated because two or three people like different styles of art to the ones we like…I imagine that could actually destroy some good up and coming talented people…I watch it sometimes but hate it.

Totally agree. They’d probably say I paint pictures and not create art. So what, I wouldn’t enter a competition but I enjoy what I do.

I always think these are more about making ‘good television’ than about the art.
