I have asked this elsewhere, and wondered what your opinions were. If you were buying hand made bookmarks on paper or card, would you prefer them laminated for durability, or ditch the plastic for eco reasons, but they probably wouldnt last that long?
Personally I would laminate them. They are then waterproof and last longer.
I would opt for laminating too. Plain card ones are more like ones you get free to advertise something. If someone is buying one and paying for postage I think I think they would want laminated quality.
I mainly read books when travelling and have found that plain card ones stay between the pages better when a book is being shoved in and out of a backpack.
I’d prefer unlaminated as somehow it feels more handmade and more personal. All the bookmarks i have - and I have loads of them - are made of card and have lasted decades. When you buy Persephone books they come with a bookmark that matches the patterned endpapers of the book itself and there is a little excerpt from the book on the reverse. I love them all as much as the books!
Why not offer a choice under variations. They pay extra for lamination. That way the customer gets what they want,
Oo, that sounds like a lovely touch! Experiencing a book should always be special and that sounds perfect
I’d say don’t laminate - the laminated bookmarks I’ve had have always curled up at the edges and then delaminated, and they are slippery. Also the pointy corners are quite sharp so not ideal if you have youngsters around you and they get hold of them. If you do laminate, I’d suggest you try and make the plastic wider than the paper and then round off the corners with one of those special corner cutters.
That’s what I used to do, make the laminate bigger and round off the corners.
I’d do as @Caroleecrafts suggests and perhaps offer both.
