Call to Arms

You can do what ever you want with the text I have posted of my Facebook page. I have posted it on my personal and artworks Facebook pages. A few years ago, when I was working in the graphic design/advertising industry, a study was made of the successes of mail drops. It concluded that mail drops did work but that it took a constant flow of at least 50 drops to get a response of 10% of the targeted market.
I don’t concern myself with worrying my friends with my constant Folksy flow, after all I have to put up with their constant posts. GO FOR IT. The more we post the more potential footfall to our shops. I just hope that Folksy will pick up our baton.

I’ve shared it too - great idea!

Hi.
I have posted a new advert for Folksy on my Facebook site (screen grab is posted below). I will also include the text I have used so you can cut and paste, if you so wish. I chose to delete the Folksy image that automatically appears and replace it with an image I found on Google - just wanted to make it eye-catching.

LOOKING FOR THAT SPECIAL GIFT?
Engagement? Wedding? Christening? Birthday? Anniversary? Special Occasion? Self pampering?
Look no further than www.folksy.com. Here you will find a host of shops. ALL hand-crafted products, ALL made in the UK, ALL unique and creative, ALL not to be found anywhere else.
Pour yourself a drink, put your feet up and have a browse - could be the best thing you do today.

I post already about Folksy, on both FB, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. I create themed boards on Pinterest (last one was about Easter) and share them on social media. I also post about random items that catch my eye on Folksy on my personal page, with an explanation as to why I’m sharing it.

But best of all is when I purchase items myself via Folksy and let others know!!

That is fantastic. We need to let as many people as possible know of the value of Folksy. I just wish that those who run Folksy would be as creative and positive in publicising our unique shops as we all do. Keep it up. GREAT! And thanks.

Hi Michael

It’s good that you’re doing this, I’m always surprised when fellow Folksy shop owners don’t advertise Folksy or their Folksy shops on their social media sites, or don’t even include business cards with their orders with their Folksy shop address on, real wasted opportunities.

Folksy do absolutely tons to publicise the site and our shops, I don’t know if you’ve seen any of these:

https://twitter.com/folksy

http://blog.folksy.com (a real wealth of information on here and well worth having a good read through)
https://uk.pinterest.com/folksy/
https://plus.google.com/+folksy/posts

They really interact with shop owners and customers on their social media sites and are great at giving advice etc too. Plus it’s always worth dropping them a tweet, FB message or tag them in Instagram so they can see any new items you’ve listed, you could get retweeted or find your item saved to Folksy favourites or a gift guide and find yourself on the front page

There’s also the Folksy Weekly email, which goes out to over 30,000 members of the public (I think that’s right? @folksycontent) , you just need to sign up for it on the homepage, and there’s also the Folksy Sellers weekly email too, these emails also advertise our shops and items as well.

So I do find the Folksy team very creative and positive in publicising our shops, they are only a small (but very lovely and supportive) team and they do work really hard for us and their site.

Thanks Natalie. Very impressed. I have created a new bespoke FB page today solely to promote Folksy. I am also going to post to friends and family to take a look at Folksy.com before heading off to Amazon and buying products from China and the Far East.

Here is the official Folksy page Michael if you’d like to add that to your favourites and share/like any of our posts on there - the more likes and shares each posts gets, the more people we’ll reach https://www.facebook.com/getfolksy

And thanks for being so positive about the work we do @MoreTeaVicarKnitwear. You’re right about the weekly newsletter - it goes out just under 60k people, and our Facebook page has a great reach too. We’ve worked really hard to build our fanbase there and grow our mailing list so they both include genuine fans of craft and handmade.

We are a very, very small team, so everything you all do to promote Folksy and your Folksy shops is really appreciated. Thank you Michael for putting in so much time and effort!

Make that 60k minus 2. Really must deregister 2 of my 3 email addresses as I now get 3 copies of every newsletter !
I get quite excited when the first 2 arrive thinking they are order notifications !

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have one question: how do I sign up for the weekly newsletter?
I really love the community feel of this site, the small and friendly atmosphere that is generated. Working by oneself, albeit on creating things one loves, can sometimes feel a little isolated. Since joining this site it has been like sharing my workshop with like minded individuals. So many thanks to you and your team.

@MichaelTerryArtisanJewellery go to the Folksy home page, scroll down past Favourites and Recent Finds and there’s a pink banner here you can enter your email address.

I echo what Michael says about the feel of this site & forum.

Regards
Jan.

Hi. Thanks for that. I have done as you suggested and look forward to receiving the weekly newsletter. :grinning:
