Can you recommend a craft drill?

Hey folks!

At the moment I rely on my husband and his drill, when I need to put holes in pendants and spoons etc. So I’d like a drill of my own. His is too heavy and I’m not very accurate with it! So I need something light weight, and easy to use :joy::blush:

Can anyone recommend one? I’d be really grateful!

I have a small handheld Proxxon one from Axminister Tools, I use if for drilling all my metal, you can get a stand too which is really useful for drilling straight holes, which I really do need lol!

I’ve got a dremel 4000 with extra flex shaft - the flex shaft bit is great as it means I can hang the heavy motor/ speed control unit up and just hold a little light weight unit in my hand. I got mine from B&Q on some bank holiday discount offer a few years back, I think Dremel have now replaced it with the 4300 model. You can also get a jig to put it in for drilling straight holes but I’ve not got that.

I have many different drills. For your purpose I would recommend a bench drill.
As your items are quite thick, and you don’t want any wobble.
I have a Proxxon TBM220 which is brilliant, but there are loads of makes out there. Be aware when looking that they have a chuck size small enough for the drill bit size you want to use.
You can buy Proxxon tools much cheaper direct from Germany, if you were interested in one of those.

Alternatively you may be able to buy a bench stand to put your husbands drill in, to turn it into a bench drill. It probably wouldn’t be as accurate/ wobble free as a proper bench drill though.

If you have an Aldi near you they have a special offer on a dremel type drill its £16.99 (I think). My husband bought one yesterday and it looks really good if you could use it, i.e. it’s got very thin drill bits.

Thank you @SashaGarrett, @DeborahJonesJewellery and @MemyCrafts!
I picked one up on Monday, and managed to sort the spoon order that’s been posted today, and drilled some pendants without having to nag him! Hehe!
