I’m with the people who don’t really want the “new items from sellers you follow” right at the top. I didn’t have a problem with it when it was further down the page, but it’s just too samey to take the prime spot. Yes it’s nice to see what shops I like have listed… but I look at the front page in the hope of finding something new, and that’s not what that is. Yes it may be a new item in their shop (or a relist of something I’ve seen before), but it’s a shop I’m familiar with, a style I know… and new items don’t always get listed that often, so unless you’re following many many shops, it can get rather static and dull seeing the same things every time.
I’d rather have something like the popular and new items up there, as at least that will be constantly changing.
To be honest, the new layout reminds me a bit of the other side with the lines of “your favourites”, “our picks”… and I stopped looking at their front page once they got rid of the treasuries. I think my problem is I find a block of listings (like the smorgasbord here or the treasuries with a group of 12 listings) a lot more visually appealing, but I guess they might not work as well on phones as sites are moving more towards this kind of layout?
I like the idea of the theme (and it could make it easy for you to make Folksy look seasonal by picking “snowman”, “robin”, “hearts”, “roses”, “mum”, “eggs”… at the appropriate times of year). If you had a block of 8/12 items in the prime spot, and then all these sections below I’d be very happy with the front page. And you could leave it to an automatic selection, curate it to get the most eye catching photos, or an interesting mix of the two (although no idea technically how easy any of that would be to make happen).
Morning!
Man, I absolutely love the idea of the themed view!
Just to keep you up-to-date with how we’re developing:
It seems like we miscalculated by putting the new items from followed sellers at the very top so as a first job we’re going to swap them with the Folksy Favourites. That way people are getting more unexpected content first. I’ll make that my first dev job today.
I really like the suggestion of improving the spread of items in the New Items From Followed section, too. I’ve created a prioritised task to have a look at that, hopefully in the next day or two. It should be a much better view, then.
And I really want to get to the themed view this week, I think it’s a brilliant idea! I’m sneaking it up the priority list a bit…
Thanks so much for the continuing feedback, it’s all brilliant!
Doug.
To be blunt, get rid of the “Popular right now” there are four items featured, three from the same shop, all similar items, if you must have it, let me see four items from different shops, give everyone a chance.
I like the “Our favourite finds” it shows different items from different shops and changes regularly, excellent.
I just came on here to say that I love the new clean look but the new items from followed sellers should be moved down from the very top.
Themed items sound like a good move and jiggling the ‘popular items’ so there are a mix of shops rather than just one or 2 shops will be better.
I know I am being a bit dim here but can someone tell me…
I do the daily listing thread where we go to people’s shops…click to “like” the item so that it gets on the home page…if only for a few minutes…
Will this still be the case?
It takes ages each day to do this clicking but has raised my sales by a lot…
I read all the above but got confused with a lot of it.
For the rest of it, I really don’t mind changes…
Brenda, those are the ones that now appear in the “Popular right now” section. So as long as that section isn’t removed, it won’t affect the thread. As it’s now lower down the page though, it’s not quite as visible as it used to be unfortunately.
@PocketfulCreations thank you…does that mean that “guests and outsiders” will still get to see these items…because those are the people whose attention we are trying to get?
I’m not sure if guests will see it but guests never could see the old front page either because you had to be signed in to see it, so that wouldn’t be any different.
Certainly anyone signed in will see the “Popular right now” section - as long as they scroll down a bit because it’s not visible at the top of the page.
Yes, the ‘Popular Right Now’ section is visible to everyone @PocketfulCreations@teabreaks - guests or logged-in users. It is further down the page now but it does shows four items, which I think is more than it used to when it was on the smorgasbord and it’s also clearer.
We’ve made that change now. Thanks for your feedback on that everyone. @dougfolksy is on the Tag Theme idea now. We’ve sneaked that one on to our list because we think it could be a really good view and a nice way to get content you might not see otherwise, and make the homepage feel seasonal. So pleased you made that suggestion @rosesworkshop.
just wondering whether there was any way of getting rid of some of the white space between sections. Just that I feel I’m forever scrolling down. It will mean that more photos will potentially appear on your pc screen at one time.
I love the new front page, always something different to see. Discovered quite a few new items and shops already. Particularly like the ‘Popular Right Now’ section, it moves very quickly so get to see a good selection of things instead of 10 minutes on the same favourites as it used to be.
I think it’s a good idea to remove the total of sellers and items available from the “Modern British Craft” at the top of the page, I think how it reads now is excellent and more inviting to look further.
Liking it better now but I do think the big pink banner (sign up to folksy newsletter) looks like the end of the page. The first time I was scrolling I didnt realise I could go further - but maybe thats just me!
