Hi there, has anybody done these online xmas markets before? Is it worth investing the money at all? Thanks
Great question, I’ll be watching with interest as it’s something I keep thinking about.
Id like to do it, depends if its worth the money and that we even can showcase our work as I would imagine its pretty popular, maybe be good for awareness of products though.
I think it all depends on how well it is advertised and to whom, plus the way it is organised/promoted.
wishing you lots of sales
Hi,
I’ve done a few over the last couple of years, you do need to put a bit of effort in before hand to make sure you’re ready to post to social media etc a lot more than usual over the weekend (I tend to schedule all my posts so I don’t have to worry about it on the day) & you have to keep an eye on your social media during the day. I found I don’t get a lot of sales on the day but lots of extra exposure which hopefully pays off in the long run. I think others, those better at social media etc than I am, have usually done well on these days.
So, not necessarily going to see an immediate increase but you can see from your stats the extra views etc to hopefully increase exposure leading to more sales in the future!
Cheers Lou
I did one on Etsy a year or so ago - it was really tough but also fun and it did result in sales so it paid for itself (and a little bit more). If it is well organised and there’s plenty of advice and support from the organisers then I might do another one as last time the positive effect on my shop lasted for quite some time. There is a lot of work though as you need to upload photos/videos etc. and be prepared to answer online questions on the day of the event. Overall ‘scary but fun’ would be my assessment with a positive effect overall.
I found the info graphic with stats for last years market
So it obviously generates traffic but it can vary quite a lot from shop to shop depending on whether you are prepared to do special offers/ release new christmas themed stock/ put effort into doing social media.
In terms of showcasing your work - when we are planning the market walks and insta lives it is a bit of a struggle to get people to appear on camera and it is always the same people who seem prepared to do it. So if you’re prepared to be on camera then you can definitely show case your work. (I’m one of the local captains who helps organise it and does some of the insta lives)
After joining tresstle, which took ages , I then applied gor the folsk Christmas market, hopefully my application will be accepted and ill let you know how it goes, as sales on both shops are slow to nill still unfortunately.
