I’ve been back on Folksy for about 8 months now, listing, pushing/advertising on twitter, Facebook and Pinterest on an almost daily basis (can’t use Instagram yet, phone needs upgrading!), but although I have lots of views every day, I’ve not made a sale yet.

OK, be honest! be brutally honest if you wish! Dive right in, rummage around, and tell me, I need to know where I’m going wrong and what I can do to change this dry patch.

I appreciate you are all very busy people with your own shops to promote, but I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Jackie

Photographs are key. Try to make things uniform (I know mine aren’t but I’m trying) making pictures pop.
Jewellery is very hard, there’s so many sellers, me included. I use ig as my main place to promote.

jewellery is hard as there is a lot of competition (yup me too). Looking at your social media all your posts seem to be ‘buy this’/ ‘look what I’m selling’ which can be off putting for your followers (I notice that you don’t seem to get any likes or retweets from them), I’d recommend that you read the folksy blog posts on using social media for marketing

(facebook also limits the scope of posts with links in them so you are better off putting the link in the comments)
There is also a wealth of advice on writing listings and taking photos.

ok…I’ll be very honest…
The posts of yours that I have seen on the Facebook Folksy group, I don’t think I have liked or commented on any of them, simply because I don’t like the way you have posted. Just putting: ‘FAB. GEORGEOUS. ONE OF KIND!’ is very off putting to me. All capitals is classed as shouting, and reminds me of the local market stall shouting ‘£1 A BAG!’. Tell people what you are sharing with them, describe it…don’t shout at them. (Sorry )

Thanks for your comments. You’re right, I must use my photos as part of my ‘brand’ and make them more uniform and professional. I have ‘upgraded’ most of the photos from what I started with, but more work is needed. Thank you.

Thanks Sasha. I have read the info you’ve suggested and most of it seems to point towards Instagram. I’ll have to get my phone upgraded. FB and twitter are just not enough anymore. And I shall change the way I advertise my wares. Thank you for your input and comments.

Good points, Kim. I must admit it is a little (very!) over the top. I’ll change the way I advertise from ‘shouting’ to explaining instead. I am so grateful you took the time to help. Thank you.

I agree a little more work on photos - jewellery is tricky, but the cropped photos aren’t great to be honest. you can never do enough work on photos! If you want to build an audience on any platform you need to post more that just selling links, I probably do maybe a quarter to a third selling ones mixed in with chit chat. You also need to comment. like, share and interact if you want people to do the same with yours. It takes a while to build an audience though.

Thanks for your comments, Dawn. I understand what you are saying about mixing with people and commenting on the forums and liking others. I never think that what I have to say about things is going to be interesting to others. I read the forums, but have been ‘backwards in coming forwards’ as my mum would have said!

I’ve noted everything everyone has told me and I’m more than grateful for the suggestions. It’s easy to get cocooned in one’s own little world, hence my reaching out. And after taking a good look at all your and Amberlilly’s, Sasha’s and Kim’s creations I can see that I have a long journey ahead of me if I want to do ‘this thing’!
thanks again,

It’s brave to ask but this is a kind forum and people are very helpful! - we are all on this journey ! generally people tend to underestimate the amount of time you have to spend on creating your brand/images/audience - it’s pretty interesting though! I enjoy that aspect  a different sort of creativity . Best wishes!
