Sorry Joy, I wasn’t sure if you meant your software couldn’t ā€˜see’ the Avif file.
Although chatting with hubster at lunchtime he says that he uses both Photoshop and Lightroom ( he does photography) and can open Avif files with both. They are full program suites on his PC. He doesn’t use online based programs. He said he downloaded a plug in for the Ps but Lightroom could already do it. He apparently ( I glazed over at this point as I have no idea what he was talking about!) uses RAW a lot and something about better quality for editing if saved as avif or something, blah, blah. Lost me but anyway a plug in will supposedly help if you use Lightroom.
This is all way over my head now, I can barely take a photo with my phone never mind all the proper editing malarky!
What is the photo originally saved as when you take it? I thought that whatever it was saved as and then uploaded to folksy as was then changed to avif so would the editing not be done before uploading and the then change to avif? Prob wouldn’t help if wanting to do a folksy friday board with other seller’s items but would at least help with your own as you’d already have a copy of the photo in a format other than avif.
Sorry, just rambling I’m no help at all I don’t think.

Congrats on your milestone Susie @islamaymakes
Well done everyone with sales too.
I’m loving all the FF boards on Insta and FB, so many gorgeous goodies.
No listing from me today, new or relisted. Lola, one of our cats has had stage 3 kidney failure since March and has got suddenly really ill yesterday and over night. An emergency vet visit this morning has resulted in her being admitted, put on drips and all sorts of medication and we cross our fingers she improves.
We knew we had limited time left with her but we hoped we’d get til the New Year. Vet says she’s severely dehydrated and it’s possible that may be the reason for this very sudden decline. Anyway, wait and see time.
I’ve loved/pinned to here.

Louise I am fully digitally and IT technically competent. It was my very professional job for 30 years.
I don’t use either Photoshop or Lightroom . That is your husband’s personal choice as a photographer but it is not mine as I am merely a glass artist and seller
I could probably get a plug in to instal on my laptop to enable it to recognize Avif files. Why on earth should I ? There is no reason at all for Avif to be used for our photos, there are far better and more compatible alternative compressed formats. Yes Avif is even better quality for editing than most but we are using photos for viewing on a omputer not a full screen projection so Avif quality is not required. Webp is the best alternative and is recognised, can be opened by standard Windows 10 software. I haven’t found any other platform like Folksy which uses Avif so it is only Folksy which gives me this problem.
If for example I wanted to start a shop somewhere else I would have to rephotograph everything as though I keep one photo of everything in my computer for sale file I keep only one. So if i wanted say 4 photos i would need to retake. I loaded them from my laptop as jpg and should expect to be able to download them the same way.

Quite a clever way really of stopping us from easily taking our listing photos from Folksy to use on an alternatvie platform I suppose

I download a photo to my windows 10 Microsoft driven laptop or PC from Folksy it downloads as Avif and there is nothing installed on my computer which will let me view it . I find this unacceptable. I should not need to use workarounds to view my own photos on my own computer. That is all.

Looks like create and craft have gone bust or heading that way. They have been offline for a couple of days and are not taking any more orders.
It would explain why two of the presenters recently left…another on bites the dust…sad.

Have they really? I’ve never bought anything from them or even watched them, but Tonic Studios which I do buy from, were having their shows etc there. Very often I would see people complaining about their orders, and today I saw on the Tonic’s fb page people saying that they won’t use create and craft again and apparently tonic haven’t been paid. I haven’t watched their Friday live yet, but it makes sense now after reading your post!
