Do you buy your own stamps and send your items off, or do you always use the Post office?

Not many parcels go missing, but accept that you are taking a gamble. So, how much time, money, and effort is it going to cost if the item goes missing?

  • If the answer is “not a lot” then just stick it in the post box.
  • If it would be inconvenient because you’re busy, but you could send another item, and it’s less than £20 then go to the post office and get a proof of postage receipt.
  • If it’s one-of-a-kind irreplaceable, and / or expensive then send it by a tracked service.

Remember by UK law it is your fault if a customer doesn’t get their purchase. The disclaimers you see on US websites don’t work here.

It doesn’t work on US sites either as the buyer just has to go to their payment provider with item not received. Then with no proof of tracking/signature the buyer will win and be refunded.

If they paid via debit/credit card they can do a ‘Charge Back’ which will cost the Seller more that the original price. There’s a percentage charge the card provider adds to the ‘Charge Back’.

If the buyer use’s paypal then paypal will refund the buyer removing the funds from the sellers account if the seller can not prove the item was delievered ie it’s been signed for.
