I wonder what people do about photos of earrings. As far as I am concerned sticking the earrings I make into my own or someone elses ears for a photo is a NoNo. Earring wires should be sent out to customer in sterile. ie unworn condition.
I just wondered as I’ve seen earrings modelled for photographs in the ears. I use various props, shells, glasses etc but never my ears.
Do people photograph them and then change the wires for actually selling ?
Slightly off topic but I feel the same about my hats and headbands. I wouldn’t put them on my head then expect anyone to want to buy them (even though I’m clean!)
I am with you there should not be worn, unless they make 2 pairs one for photographing etc. I have used those little tree thingies before, not sure what the proper name is.
Take a look at how @GlintBeads photographs hers - I think it makes a really great display, and no ears involved!
I photograph mine on a hairdressing model head to try and show how they hang.
Love that idea
The pics where I’m wearing some of mine is because I’ve cheekily kept them for myself
I feel the same, I wouldn’t buy something if it was being worn in the picture. I was recently looking for toeless socks and really liked a pair but they were worn in the photo so I didn’t purchase them.
I would never wear the earrings I am selling as it is something that would put me off buying.
I think some people maybe aren’t wearing the exact same pair they are selling, but I agree it can be off putting seeing them on a live model - even if it is the best way to show how they look. I read somewhere that psychologically people prefer not to see the full face / eyes of the person wearing them if you do use a live model as that feels too personal.
I use random items to display them, I like to show them hanging from a tea cup or something but isn’t always possible to get the best shot this way. I love making earrings but have no idea why as I never actually wear earrings myself these days and have to make 2 that look like they belong together so are more challenging, more work and often less profitable than a necklace - perhaps I they remind me of my youth
I can’t actually wear mine either.now… well left ear is ok but there would be blood if I tried to force the right ear to wear one !!
Shame I have some nice ones, including my own of course , but kept forgetting to wear them when my hair is over my ears and then one day. it was too late
… never mind my shells work well or just showing them off in the little gift box
Like you I would never wear a pair of earrings I was going to sell. It makes me cringe when I see people doing that. I just photograph mine on a stand.
I will only buy earrings being modelled if it says there is more than 1 of that item. I sell hats that are modelled but always make up and send out a new item.
I agree - @GlintBeads takes fabulous product shots.
Jewelry photography is challenging to capture photos of rings, necklaces, and earrings, because of the smooth and shiny surfaces. These pieces can easily catch reflections ruining the picture or adding distortions that are difficult to edit.
