I am so excited to finally join this wonderful creative family! My name is Jekaterina, and Iāve just opened my shop, Persiklovesbunnies, here in Plymouth.
My life has always been filled with creativity ā I play the violin and piano, and I love to paint. But my real ācreative explosionā happened just 6 months ago, at the age of 35, and it was all because of my little daughter. She absolutely adores bunnies! One day, I saw a beautiful crocheted bunny and a thought hit me like a lightning bolt: āI WANT to make a bunny like this for my baby girl!āThe very next day, I bought all the materials, grabbed a crochet hook for the first time, and I havenāt put it down since! I completely ādissolveā into the process; I adore the rhythm of every stitch. In just six months, Iāve mastered the art of creating these stunning bunnies that Iām so proud to share with you now.
Even my shopās name is a tribute to my daughter. āPersikā means āPeachā in my language, which is my sweet nickname for her. So, Persiklovesbunnies is literally a story of a motherās love! +=
Now, my life is officially surrounded by bunnies everywhere, and I couldnāt be happier! Iām here to connect with other creative souls, to be inspired, and to share this ābunnymaniaā with you all.
Looking forward to meeting you!
With love and plenty of stitches,
Jekaterina (Persiklovesbunnies)
I love your bunnies, they are gorgeous, and just asking to be picked up and hugged. In fact, one of your listings shows one of your bunnies being hugged by a child. Iām concerned then that though you state these are āfor nursery decor onlyā these have all the characteristics of toys and will be seen as such by children. In which case, you do need to have safety tested them and state this in the listings. This isnāt as scary as it sounds, there are plenty of people here who can advise you, and you are using safety eyes and suchlike so I donāt imagine there will be any problem. However, it is a legal requirement so please look into it.
Aww your bunnies are adorable and your crocheting is beautiful To sell them legally in the UK you do need to CE/UKCA test them as they have play value, ie a child would see them as a toy. We are not allowed to use disclaimers such as for display purposes only. I am just going through the process of testing some plush soft toys after giving up selling toys for a while and this Facebook group has been invaluable with help and knowledge I hope this info helps and wish you luck on your shop and testing journey x
You state youāre a relatively new crocheter so I assume youāre using an existing crochet pattern for these bunnies. You havenāt credited a designer, which isnāt necessarily required, but have you checked that youāre allowed to sell items made from this pattern? You might be falling foul there if you havenāt verified that.
The bunnies I made from existing patterns Iām not selling,This bunnies Iām made 2 last ones( not selling now as trying to work with safety documents and get all paperwork done) THEY ARE MY OWN DESIGN,as Iāve take legs pattern from one bunny the legs I liked, face (the white bit )I made myself, coz even on Pinterest there was no pattern, and bunnies clothes from teddy bear pattern, ears I made from another Bunny pattern, then this bunnies is mix of all this bits and bobsā
Iām in process of documentationāas this bunnies made for my daughter (on photo is my daughter) IM 100000%SSURE they are safe, especially eyes and nose ,I ve make eyes and nose parts flat from inside so ilno way they can slide out and all materials is high quality (Iām just waiting for factories send me all documentation) Just a bit left and Iām gonna have everything to sell them officially
Thatās great news that you are looking into testing. I am sure you are now aware that all materials that you use will need to be certified safe before you can use them and start the physical tests which include tests to test the strength of the toy both before and after washing, flammability etc. I personally use the Conformance soft toy testing pack which has all the blank documents you will need to get your toys tested and certified at home, here is a link to the pack. It may all seem a bit daunting (and expensive) at first but its worth it to know our toys are certified UKCA/CE safe and legal to sell in the UK
Oh another thing, you may want to check that your insurance covers for the selling of soft toys, a lot of the big companies donāt cover for soft toys so you may have to change insurance providers to make sure you are covered, just in case their was ever any issues/claims regarding one of your toys. Ian Wallace is a company that lots of small toy making businesses, toy makers seem to use and will be who I use once I get my new toys tested and ready for sale.
If you are unsure about anything please contact your local trading standards for advice as they can help.
Good luck and I am sure your bunnies are going to be super popular x
