Are buyers on Folksy able to give an alternative address for an item to be sent to (ie a gift to be sent straight to the recipient and not the original buyer)?
No but have had one through PayPal under notes before.
Does that not affect your Paypal seller protection though?
Yes they can specify the address for gift to sent direct to a recipient as part of the check out process, I’ve done it on several occasions myself.
I can’t remember at what point you input the alternative address as I now have an address book set up on folksy with them all stored in.
If they have an account then if they look down the left hand side of the dashboard there is an option of ‘addresses’ towards the bottom where you can add recipient addresses. It is possible to do it during the check out process as well.
Thank you Sasha. Does that only apply if they are paying by Paypal or cc as well?
I believe it’s for both.
(I can feel a purchase of something random to go to my sister coming on, to check out at what point I select her address. Although I do owe my mum a birthday present…)
and thank you so much for your help.
In the process of buying my mum a print…..
after the ‘check out’ button it brings up the screen of saved addresses with the option of ‘create new address’
Works for either payment option.
Nb i do have an account and it might be different if they are a guest buyer
All understood thanks.
And of course what it does not allow for is notifying the poor seller that they are posting to a different address (unless the customer happens to mention it in a note or if the customer email address is so specific it is clear it is going to someone different.)
So the customer is likely to discover that the recipient receives a fully priced invoice style piece of paperwork in with whatever they posted directly as a gift oh and of course nothing to say who sent it to them …as it is illegal for us to say who the actual customer was unless the customer gives permission.
PS Couldnt try the Paypal route as it knew it was me but it did allow me to select an alternative Gordon Bennett address i had set up to test it.(as per instructions above) when i selected to pay by stripe.
They seem to be, I’ve seen it quite often.
