Hello, I'm New To Folksy

Hi Folks, I have been around for years but I am new to Folksy. I am on Etsy but I am very uncomfortable with their current Ethos. Anyway i have listed about 220 items, still got hundreds to go, including my own lampwork. I would very much appreciate it you could pop over and give me some honest feedback on anything i have missed or could do better. Apologies if i have posted this in wrong section, i will find my way around. I look forward to being part of the forum. Thanks, karen

welcome to folksy…your shop looks great and full…my only comment would be to improve your focusing on the photos they look a bit fuzzy…as for the artwork they are great to use for all sorts of craftworks…I hope you have a great time here on this site…tj

Hi @icklethings surely you mean new to Folksy not Etsy
I’d agree about the photo focus issue but your products look interesting! Hope you enjoy developing your shop

Another comment about photos I’m afraid - Folksy crop the images shown on our shop fronts and in search results to square and if your images aren’t already square bits get chopped off (when I look at your shop the angel listing is missing her head!). You can either pre crop photos to square (I do this using picasa, they are then in the right format to go on instagram) or you need to leave a big enough border around the item so that bits aren’t chopped off when its cropped).
with respect to your descriptions/ titles - you have no dimensions for a lot of the die cuts! I’m not a scrap booker so maybe it is known amoungst scrap bookers what dimensions this sort of thing is but if someone has never used that particular brand before they might not so I’d recommend including them. Double check your tags - its probably a mistake from where a listing has been copied but your floral sheets have angel tags. And finally the folksy algorithm is a bit different to the etsy one and google is different again - they like to see repetition of the key phrase in the title, first sentence of the description and in the tags (but google dislikes seeing repetition between pages). At the moment your titles and descriptions are all very similar (all the angels have the same title and description, there are 3 listings for a vintage lady again with the same title and description even though the lady is different in the listings) ideally they need tweaking so that each title and description is different (and different from what you might have listed on etsy) - the folksy blog should hopefully explain that better than I have http://blog.folksy.com/category/seller-tips/product-listing-tips
good luck

Hi Karen, I agree with Sasha @SashaGarrett. Your photos do need to be cropped, as I too saw the “chopped off heads”.
Another idea which would help your shop immensely is to join Social Media, and link them to your Shop. I find Instagram really useful, although you will have to use Facebook too. I love Instagram, and use it quite often to promote Folksy Friday.
Good luck.

Hi Alexandra @ThePaperKaleidoscope

You see - I found that you had an Instagram Account, and have followed you. Social Media does help.

Glad I can help - a top tip I was given some years ago but still stands true (and I still aim to do) is to write your descriptions as if describing the item to a blind person, the logic to that is that search algorithms can’t see the images. This encourages you to ignore the images and include all the details relating to colour, texture, style etc (things that are obvious if you can see the images) so you will end up including SEO friendly search phrases almost by accident.
