Help Needed: Creating a Custom Dropdown Menu for Box Options

Hi fellow artisans,

I have another question for you and would greatly appreciate your help. I’m in the process of updating my page and looking for ways to enhance it. Since each of my boxes is handmade and unique, with no two being identical in terms of cut, wood, and other details, I want to add a dropdown menu that allows customers to customize their choices. For example, they should be able to select the type of wood from my available options, choose the flocking color for the drawers, and provide other specific details.

I know that subfolders exist, but I’m unsure if they can be customized to fit my needs. Has anyone had experience with this type of customization? Any advice on how to create a dropdown menu that lets customers select various options for each box would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

All I can think of is if you typed in the drop down menu “wood Type” and add all the types of wood each as a different choice.

yes, ok, but it already gives me written sentences, it doesn’t let me insert the writings as I like, I’m definitely doing something wrong

Once you click the add button

You should be able to add your own text (see image below)

You can have 20 option lines in each drop down vatiation, but you can only have 4 variations in total (drop down or free text).

So you could do type of wood in the first, flock colour in the second, and something else in the third and another in the 4th.

But you can ask people to leave you a note when they order, which can be used as an extra variation.

If you need more, you will have to split the items over many listings.

If it’s any consolation Marco - it took me ages to work out how to do the variations - my brain just wouldn’t click with it. Even now if I have to alter anything or add a new one I have to try several times before I manage to get it right. I have the same issue with our Zettle card reader. I get there in the end but it’s a lot of trial and error. :grinning:

Exactly, I’m the same way! I try so many times and make a lot of mistakes. For example, a friend from the forum sent me some pictures, and I understood a bit more from that. Another friend explained to me how to modify the variations and how many I can add, but it’s not really working. I can insert 2 or 3 variations, but as soon as I try to add one more, it won’t let me save, and I just can’t figure out why

I know it is long winded but try adding 1 variation save it, then go and edit variations add another then save it etc, that way you will know what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.

Thank you for the advice! I followed your suggestions, and although it took a bit of time, I eventually managed to complete the work. I’ve attached the link to the changes. Anyone reading this is welcome to provide feedback on whether any additional improvements are needed. I’m open to any help you can offer. Thanks again!
