I have a shop on the dark side which is currently empty as I sold all the stock (I kept the 2 shops stock separate) and don’t have time to make new stock and should someone in the states order it (which is where my orders were going to) there isn’t time ship it over there guaranteed for christmas. I never promoted the dark side shop but since it was stocked with fordite jewellery I had a steady stream of people finding me just because there are so few people using it and the demand is high. (people are finding the fordite here but so far no one’s bought any so I may find myself moving some of the stock over to the dark side in Jan or just listing any new pieces over there).
My regulars have come about from participation in a local open studios scheme and from doing a stall at my other half’s work place. I better get back to my commission as there are 2 more waiting after the current pendant/ earrings set is done.

I’ve had 10 orders (13 items) in November and 3 orders (9 items) so far in December. I also sold quite a few Christmas items in October including a special order for 20 sets of embroidered Christmas oven gloves from a regular customer.
These are all through Folksy as it is my only selling site.
I am quite happy with this as I also work part time…

I’ve seen a huge difference between last christmas and this year so far. The main difference was at this time last year I had an item in Folksy’s favourites but I am promoting the same amount other than promoting my own website at the same time.

The other thing I think has made a difference is my photos. I changed to just using a white background in the summer and have struggled ever since. Just switched back to my older images for most of my items so will see if that makes any difference.

Donna @RedDragonDesigns that is an amazing tally, and totally deserved.

I signed up a little while ago but no sales so far, despite posting on FB etc. I think I will have to rethink my strategies! I was hoping my Christmas cards would sell!

It does take a while to get your shop seen. It may help if your main link on your Facebook page pointed to your Folksy shop, and if you had more listings. I found I got more sales when my shop looks fuller…

I’m quite happy to have had 4 sales so far this month. I work part time too and it’s a nice balance. I may start to make a little profit soon. That would be fab.

Well done on those super sales Donna @RedDragonDesigns

Hi Hannah

Your illustrations are amazing , sadly not for me as other half makes all our cards , has done for years. I know its hard work but you may need to have more stock to choose from my sales have improved as I added more variety. The other thought I had was why not focus on the event market eg get well soon, sorry you are leaving, happy anniversary and what about pet birthdays with the pets name on the card. You could also do say 3 or 4 cards in a set which may be less costly for the purchaser postage wise. Keep your chin up

I’ve had no sales so far In December but last year I think I only had one.

But last year I had a really busy October and this year it was November that was my busiest. (That was only 4 items)

Wow @RedDragonDesigns :open_mouth: that’s amazing well done I think I’d have a heart attack if I saw that many sales hehe

I like your non-white background pictures - really pretty x

I judge my sales by seeing how big my bills have been. So far this Christmas, better than last year (which was pathetic). But nowhere near 2012 which was amazing ! And 2013, which was pretty good. Also I noticed that 3 months this year I sold nothing :frowning:
Perhaps it’s best to ignore past sales and just carry on doing your best…

Thanks Ali, I definitely prefer them myself. It’s all trial and error and finding what works for each of us. I’m going to do a massive photo session after Christmas and get everything onto a non white back ground again

For me it is picking up a bit now, though still not got back to the level of sales in 2013. I have had 8 sales this month.

Just made my first sale at the weekend. I’m over the moon!

I’ve sold 7 items so far this December and am doing better than last year but that’s because I’m actively promoting now.

Well, I’m doing absolutely rubbish, no sales at all this year - none since I opened the shop!! I am wondering if it’s all worth it. So difficult to get my shop ā€˜seen’. But am trying to remain positive :grimacing: Good luck to everyone x

Hi Sharon @SharonsHandmadeJewellery I love your necklaces and have just favourited one of them.

I’m about to promote it on google+ for you.

I was wondering how much promoting and where you promote your shop and items as they are very pretty.

I just visited your page, and then clicked on your Facebook link. Your Facebook page has your Etsy shop as your main link, so that is where you are sending people, not Folksy.

Sales are slow but happy to say I have actually had some.
Even happier to say that 4 out of the last 5 sales Ive had in the last month have been my soldered items which is nice.
I should be soldering now but Im procrastinating on here instead.
