How do I compare to other shops?

Hi, back again with yet another question. Here is a copy of my shop stats. I was wondering how I compare to other shops on here. Still no sales, but seem to be getting lots of views.

Well, I had 11 item visits in the last 7 days, so your 426 looks good to me!

Unfortunately I think your views might have been inflated by people from the forum having a look after you posted asking for advice. If you look at the break down for sources does it give any indication as to how many of those views came from the forum?

Click on the ‘show items’ and it will then bring up a list of items along with a second tab showing sources for the views on items.

Don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm but as a high volume seller over the 17 years i’ve had a shop here I can say I Very rarely bother to look at my views. Views mean not a lot really. Not unless they are converting to sales as it is sales which matter.
Also as well as the point mentioned by Sasha about forum seller views, the Folksy stats, unless they have fixed them but they hadn’t last time i looked, include your own views which does distort rather.

I’ve had about 30 views so you are doing well but no sales either !

does anyone sell much on here ?

Hi
It depends on what you sell and how you sell it. Just casually listing things will probably not get you far as there are thousands of things for sale on here and Folksy don’t do any advertising so it is all down to you.
You need to make sure that your listings well describe what you are trying to sell and well display it too. That is all a potential custtomer has to go on, They can’t pick anything up and turn it this way and that. All they can do is read your words and look at your photos. And your listings need to have titles and tags so they come up in searches for a potential customer to find them in the first place.
eg A title of " Roman fresco on blue" is not going to attract a small size lady looking for a t-shirt however nice the lino print on it.
Nor is an unexplained 38% reduction as you shouldn’t be selling things showing reduced prices if they were not previously for sale at the full price.
Nor will the first photo help to sell it as it is shown on a man and is decidedly not blue nor small lady size.
I hope you can see what I mean. Not trying to be critical but to give you a helpful critique. And yes i do sell a lot on here. 4.5K+ items sold but I’ve been here a long time so I do know how to present my work so that it attracts and retains customers.
PS your blog link to your utube channel doesn’t work.

Hi

Thanks its good to get a critique harsh but fair lol . I’m still finding my way around this place . The funny thing about the T shirts I put the pics of me wearing them thinking that would show them being worn and might be a good idea , originally they weren’t there, so I’ve changed them back. I also didn’t realise the YT link didn’t work , it should now . The pricing was originally 20 each but not for long so I’ve changed that as well . Thanks for taking the time to take a look . adeevisionart

@adeevisionart Hi yes there are plenty of us that do well on here.

I had a look at your shop, you would benefit from more info to your descriptions, you have t shirts for sale in ladies size medium, small etc..but you don’t have any measurements. Size small, medium etc doesn’t mean anything to me as sizes vary depending on the brand, style and cut, you need to add chest measurements as well, are they fitted, regular or wide cut, also include the finished length. I also wouldn’t buy a piece of clothing unless I knew the composition, what are they made of ? If I was a customer and had to ask for measurements and then for the fabric type I probably wouldn’t bother, You need to put as much information in your descriptions as possible, if the information isn’t there you could lose potential customers.

Adrian your photos need to be square otherwise part of the shot gets cut off on the front page. You have cards in landscape and in the mini print part of the card is missing. You should be able to adjust on your photo programme or preset your camera to 1:1.

Also a story behind your floral prints would be good. Give more details about yourself in the About section. People that buy handmade love to know who they are buying from as the only way they can get to know you.

Where it says sources, click on the items tab to the left and it will bring up the items people have looked at. I agree you’ve asked questions on the forum so there may have been a few sellers looking at your shop plus your own views are included in the stats. I’ve tested it a few times by typing a strange search name in whilst being logged in and every time it’s picked up in my stats so for that reason I find them pretty useless as it’s not a true representation of visitors.

People shop with their eyes so photos need to be brightly lit and appealing. Having a tee shirt hanging from a hanger is not very appealing. Most of your photos have a grey dull wash. I see your profile photo is you, or someone, wearing one of your teeshirts? That’s a much more appealing image. Smiling models. Outdoor brightly lit or indoor studio shots. Action shots.

Your descriptions need more depth. I know who Maria is, but most probably won’t. State who she is and that Metropolis is an iconic movie. What is your fabric? 100 percent cotton? Polyblend? What temp does it wash at? Can you spin dry. Can you use a dryer? Chest sizes. Length sizes. When I buy a teeshirt I need to know all these thiings and the majority of buyers are women.

Your cards need more photos. One is not enough. Look to the shops on here that are selling similar items and learn from them.

Hi Yes the picture is me wearing one of the tees , I did have one on the product page but took it off as someone else said not to ! . Anyway I have updated the descriptions etc . Its taking longer to do all the admin stuff than it takes to the prints ! lol oh well

Ah but that is the difference between a shop which sells and a shop which doesn’t. There are many many sellers who set up on here, stick up a few hastily written listings and often grotty photos and then they complain they are not selling anything. A :rofl:s they do not understand that you have to be a sales manager, accountant, marketing exec, photographer, script writer, social media expert as well as purchasing manager, Quality control, despatch clerk and customer relations.
And all that is on top of being what they really just want to be and that is an Artist.
They are the ones who leave because they don’t sell.

I agree can often spend more time on Admin than making.

Well since I got a lot of advice , I’ve made quite a few changes which seems to have at least increased traffic - so hopefully that might turn into a sale or 2 !. Although at the moment I’m reluctant adding new items until some have sold , seeing as at the moment its costing more than its worth really. But its early days and a learning curve!.

I took that advice onboard too; I have upgraded all my photos to high resolution and 4.3 to fit the listing size. Is there a way of having all my new items go to the top of the shop instead of on page 3 of my listings???

Go to Dashboard, and then Shopkeeping (under heading Shop settings), to move items up.
