Doesn’t sound harsh at all Angela - I’m happy to take any advice and help being a bit of a novice to this online selling. Thank you for taking the time to look at my shop and giving me some helpful input. Julie x
My hubby is away this evening so a big cuppa and a bit of quiet reading sounds a good use of my time. Thank you. x
Thank you Claire and Jenny for your help.
Hi Julie - lots of good advice here already but just a small comment from me which may be of interest. I’m currently deciding how to utilise the banner more effectively on my shop and one thought I had was maybe I could show how I work (i.e. the tools and materials I use) on my banner, rather than a product (as the products are already listed in my shop). So people visiting my shop would get a better sense that I work in textiles, some of it hand dyed, some of it hand stitched, others free machine embroidered. So on my banner I could show the dyes in buckets, the threads and needles maybe etc etc.
That would be hard to show all that in one banner, hence my procrastination, but maybe you could use a picture of you at work or a close up of your jewellery making tools, as this would really emphasise the hand crafted nature of your work. There’s often debate on the forums about whether jewellery which is assembled is the same degree of ‘hand made’ as jewellery which is hand crafted from ‘scratch’, and whilst I think they both have merit, I think the fact you are a trained silversmith and make all your stuff from raw materials could be promoted more. Using the banner to convey this visually would give your shop differentiation and communicate more that hand crafted USP. Good luck with the shop.
And for example on this listing:
as you have two spare photo slots, maybe you could show a picture of the kiln in use and the piece on your workshop bench alongside the tools you are using.
The customer who is looking for a premium silver necklace and who has a good budget would I’m sure be intrigued by glimpsing more of that production side of your items. Just my thoughts!
That is a great idea Heidi - I really like that. Including a photo of me making a specific piece would really add to the ‘story’ and add more ‘personality’ to my shop. Thank you x
Glad it’s useful - as I said earlier, I just have to find a way (or an image) that does the same for me! Not easy!!
Off topic - but I really like your banner @Textiletreasure It shows your sewing skill and great sense of colour. Its the first thing the buyer sees and makes them want to see more. I understand the items are listed in your shop but the banner is the first thing that will catch their eye and the may not go any further if they just see some tools etc.? I could be totally wrong but I am just looking at from the point of view as me being a customer looking at your shop.
Ar thanks Angela @AngelaCallanan, that’s good to hear! All these decisions are really difficult to make aren’t they as what’s right for one is not necessarily right for another. Hence I’m always thinking about stuff for ages before I do anything lol!
