Hello Everyone, we are new here on Folksy Forums.
We have been listing on Folksy since Feb 2023 but were unable to sell even one item which was quite defeating, compared to our experience of listing on similar platforms in the past where we managed to sell our first item after we opened for about 4-6 weeks. We reckon if our products are not appealing, priced too high or what.
IG and Facebooks are the key ways we promote our online shop on Folksy, but not very effective.
Does anyone have similar experience? Any suggestions?
We are still looking for the opportunities to run a booth in handmade market /fair nearby.
Thank you!

I dont think there is a magic solution, im afraid. Finding your customers is hard.
Do you post your makes on your own fb page, or do you go beyond that, onto local community “for sale” pages?
Look at your hashtags. Recent advice ive seen is to use 5, no more. No idea why, perhaps the algorithms recognise them faster?
Look at the folksy blog as theres loads of info there, and admin keep it updated and relevant.
Folksy recently had a few expert tuition sessions - you can catch up on them if you have a plus account. One was marketing and one recently on photography. Ive yet to sit and watch them but theyve both been well reviewed.

I’ve only been investing in my shop since beginning of the year. So far 5 sales. I sell on E… too, which looks after itself mainly.
There are canva templates you can download and use as well as logos you can add to you sm pictures. Quite a few of us regularly use them.
I’ve added Folksy details and a Linktr.ee qr code to cards that go in all orders.
I join in the forums and events that are going on. Yes its time consuming but hopefully it will pay off

Welcome to Folksy and the forum. On top of whatever has been mentioned already, I actually directed directed my existent customers to my Folksy shop by sending them an email with my link. Believe it or not, it worked wonders. Of course, they were familiar enough to allow me to do something like that without getting misunderstood, or being labelled as “spamming”. Although the same people have already been given cards lots of times, nobody bothered. They used to say what they need, and I was making it. Which they still do, but when they got the link they started buying from the shop directly and they actually give the link out to their friends and family. This way they can see more of my items, plus they became familiar with Folksy, which I believe will help fellow sellers as well.
As for SM, I use mainly Facebook, without any success so far. I do put items on Pinterest, but cannot get on with it anyway, and I try to put “making of” videos on my youtube channel but it’s just so time consuming that puts me off a bit. Apparently TikTok works wonders for some, but not my thing. So I guess it’s a bit of finding out what works best for you as well. x

Thanks all,
We have been promoting through Fb, IG and YT and are thinking of setting up a Pinterest account too, but not sure how it works in terms of marketing.
We have our biz cards ready but yet to give them out through sales or in market /fair.
