Can anyone suggest a super online or high street for purchasing hygiene seals for my earrings. I have looked on line and can only find the self seal bags.
Thank you

Do they actually exist?
I think you would just have to heat seal them into squares. Not the prettiest presentation though.
Cant you just use a self seal bag with a super sticky sticker that won’t peel off without tearing - I’m sure you can get them but not sure where.
Thanks Roz
I have those but they can easily be opened. A good sticker over it may be
the answer and then maybe a staple through that.
Thanks Deborah
I don’t know if they exist. I wonder what other people do as I can’t
resell if they have been tried. I know some suggest cleaning them but
personally I wouldn’t want to buy in this way.
There is quite a high profile seller (not sure if they are on Folksy or not), selling earrings that have been modelled. I am assuming that they are just a display pair as opposed to the ones that a buyer would actually receive but it puts me off anyway just in case! (sorry, I know that’s not your topic but it just made me remember that)
Maybe you could actually glue the sticker down, then it definitely wouldn’t be able to be peeled off and re-stuck?
You could always get one of those bag sealers - I don’t think they are very expensive anymore.
If you look on Amazon and do a search for heat sealers there are several hand held ones at pretty low prices - don’t know how good they are but might be worth investigating.
Thank you. It would put me off. I want my buyers to be assured they are
completely new. I would use returns if I was unsure and that may get
expensive. There myst be a way and I will look into the heat sealer.
Do you get a lot of returns? I find it is quite rare.
I thought about seals when reading the returns policy, but decided that presentation and the wow factor of opening a pretty package was worth more than the cost of a pair of wires should they come back. Maybe price it in, so that you are covered should it happen.
I agree with you Sarah @thedotterypotter , seeing earrings modelled on a person raises questions, but then I feel the same when I see knitted hats modelled on heads.
Sterling silver or copper ear-wires are naturally anti-bacterial. Silver is often used in hospital dressings for deep cuts as it promotes skin healing, so earrings do not need to be sealed to ensure they are clean. I always think that the practise of sealing anything (including food) in plastic is completely unnecessary, because the items may well have been handled before they were sealed, and the germs were just sealed up under the plastic. Bacteria multiply at such a rate that even clean plastic will be completely covered within 2 hours.
I would not sell any earrings that had been modeled or worn, as it is impossible to sterilize them thoroughly enough to be sure you had killed pathogens like new variant CJD, and you could leave yourself open to a court case if this occurred. This is one of those times when you really do need to be careful over the health of your customers.
However, heat sealing in plastic is not very kind to the environment either, and it would mean that you would have trouble with your customers believing you were ethical.
As I am a silversmith, I would melt any earrings down that I received as a return and use them for something else, but this is not a possibility with plated wires, which would have to be disposed of. As plated ear wires are only a few pence a pair, I would double the cost allowance for the wires, which would enable you to throw them away if you had a return without loosing any money. ie Let the customer bear the cost of the replacements.

Yes I agree presentation is important and looks much nicer arriving in a
box. I haven’t had any returns. Fairly new to this so just trying to find
the best way should it happen.
This is such an interesting topic.
I too am totally put off buying earrings if a see someone wearing them in the listing photo…
It may well be they make a pair for modelling purposes only, but you never know…,
I make mainly one of a kind earrings using silver plated findings. I’ve never had any returned, but if ever I did I would just throw them away if they had stud post finishes.
If on hooks which I could remove and replace with a clean, new set that would be an option.
I would never, ever re sell a return pair. I’ve read too about CJD and there’s probably many more nasties that would not be removed safely.
Just too risky and really gross.
Am I right in thinking also that in our policies even though we say no returns on worn items for hygiene reasons that we still have to. I’m sure I’d read somewhere that by law the customer should be refunded. I may be completely wrong so please correct me if I am.
Big typo!! I meant to say I would NOT use returns if I was unsure.
Definitely not. I would rather throw the wires away.
Karen, I think the distance selling law says you have to refund but I
might be wrong.
I really should get my head around all of these policies.
They change such a lot and are written in riddles
There was a big discussion on FB recently about whether or not earrings fell into the “no returns due to hygiene” reasons. I’m not sure but if you put that in your returns policy maybe its OK to refuse a return.
I believe you have to accept returns for earrings, which I don’t think is a good idea, but still…to add, I send mine out in a small poly bag with a sticker over the seal, but to be honest, I don’t think this would stop anyone opening up and using before returning, so I would replace the ear wires if I had any returns. Not great financially if you deal with precious metals, but mine are all plated as I wouldn’t be able to afford to do it otherwise.
Hi guys, saw the post and I’d recommend these

We used them in a well known High Street jewellery shop when I worked there x
