I just did something really scary...MORE RECENT UPDATE

So nice to hear I’m not alone with my phone phobia! Trouble is most of my new work (self employed chiropodist) comes via a telephone call. I often can’t bring myself to answer it and then it can take days for me to respond to a message - I’m sure I’ve lost loads of work that way! Good luck with the interview.

Roz, try a script for your phone calls? Obviously, you will need to speak “off script” quite often, but it can help to have a basic skeleton for the most common kinds of conversation. It just gives you a bit of extra support - which can boost your confidence. And if you find you’re really struggling, would one or two of your friends help you out, by giving you some phone-call practice (ie. role-play)?
And it is down to practice. I worked as a Help Desk person, for about six or seven years. I got so used to the phone that it didn’t bother me at all - I could speak to anybody, about anything, without any anxiety. I got good at interpreting tones of voice, asking the right questions, listening and making notes about the important details etc. Now, I haven’t really had to use the phone for years. I find myself feeling much as you do - I’m kind of scared of that phone! I feel that it’s silly, but really, I’m just out of practice.
The more you manage to talk on the phone, the braver you will feel.
Good luck!

Well guess who starts a new job on monday!!!

I was so nervous but told myself to just get on with it. The boss is lovely, he likes to talk which is good for me as I hate talking, so I just listened and nodded and threw in comments/questions when I could.
He chatted for about an hour, then I went oto the workroom and a lovely lady showed me around the fabrics, machines etc. They have a bias binding foot which Ive always wanted to try and its fab. I tried sewing items for about 3 hours(time whizzed by) Fabric is tough to work with and corners at tricky but they offered me the job so I must have done things well.

So, a job, and my renewed craft insurance has come through today. All I need now is for my new phone to work and Il have had 3 great things happen in a day!! Im not used to that.

Still nervous about being able to afford to sell at a craft fair this weekend, my mind is still thinking like i have no income.

Congratulations on your new job!

Yay! Brilliant! Well done you!

Well done! Hope all goes well for you. Good luck at your fair as well. You’ll be more relaxed for that now and I’m sure your mind will catch up.

When I worked in offices, I didn’t mind the intereviews or sending CVs, but I was dreading presentations. During many intereviews I did ask the interviewer if I would have to do any. Luckily, none of my jobs required me to do so. Phew!!

That is such good news, well done. I hope you can manage to relax a little and not worry about your craft fair, just enjoy it. xxx

Well done and good luck for your craft fair. Pauline x

That’s excellent news, well done!

Thanks one and all.
How about this for a persons low confidence levels. I keep thinking they have made a mistake and only employed me because they were short staffed.
Isnt that an awful way to think!
