I have been on folksy for about a month and have had 250 visits to my shop but no sales what am I doing wrong? I make unique one off pieces of resin jewellery. My shop is called colourburstjewellery
Welcome!
I don’t think you’re necessarily doing anything ‘wrong’, just maybe haven’t found the right buyers yet.
Having looked at your listings, try adding photos of the jewellery being worn - even though you’ve added dimensions it does really help to see a picture of a necklace on someone (even if you crop out the face). Try and add some more details about the item too - let buyers know that they are unique and one of a kind. You can also add more tags to increase reach to people.
Hope this helps
I have just looked on your shop, your items are lovely, we love working with resin also, its such fun, so tell your customers that, add some more story to your inspiration section, and a bit more detail. Using tags is also very important, potential customers will be able to find you through them. I hope this helps, have fun! Karen x
I had a little look at a couple of your necklaces, which are lovely, and noticed you are charging £11.95 for postage and packaging. Did you mean to charge this much?
As those above have said, I would add more photos and describe your necklaces with greater detail, for example, what is the metal you use around your resin pieces?
The Folksy blog and YouTube channel has some great advice that I’ve found very useful.
I’m also in Powys, Llandrindod Wells. Whereabouts are you?
I think Jennie has your answer…POSTAGE…obviously a mistake that you have made as you also have second and subsequent items for £11.95 which means if someone buys two they will have to pay £23.90 postage…??? That would certainly make people walk away…
For postage, you need to put how much it will cost you to post plus a small amount for packaging…and for second and subsequent items that will be posted together…weigh two and see how much royal mail would charge you…for example…£5 for one necklace plus an extra £1.00 for two posted together (£6) so put £5in first box and £1 in the second box. (I made this mistake when I first opened my shop …so I understand the error. x
Hi, yes you’ve made a mistake with postage as you seem to have added the item price there instead!
With photos I would have the main photo showing a closer-up of the item.
Relist regularly as that bumps you higher up the pages. There is a LOT of jewellery on this site.
I have found sales fairly slow recently, I only started post-lockdown etc. I do have an active instagram which I post items on, offers etc.
The issue with your postage rates certainly isn’t going to help you get sales but some other things I’d recommend are - having a shot of just the pendant for the first image so that the customer can clearly see the patterns and colours. I’d also include a photo of the pendant in a hand or being worn to give a sense of scale (I’d add in dimensions as well). From selling jewellery I know that people want to know what sort of metal is involved because of allergies so you need to add that info into the description. Finally tags are important for getting found in folksy searches so you need to add some of those.
With the Plus account you can show up to 10 photos, so take advantage of this. Have a close up photo of the pendant, one with it being worn, maybe a photo of the back.
From the photo you have currently, I am assuming that the necklaces come gift boxed, but this isn’t stated in your description. A blind or partial sighted person who can’t see the photos wouldn’t know. You don’t state what the cord/metal is - essential for people with allergies. It might also be useful to let people know if you are using a courier/Royal Mail and if so are you posting 1st or 2nd class, as this might make a difference to someone buying a last minute gift, who needs to know it will arrive in time.
You need to use the tags as well. Think of what you would search for if you were looking for one of your items to buy - resin necklace/resin pendant/resin jewellery/necklace/pendant/resin/gift for her/gifts for teenagers/retirement gift/gifts for bridesmaids etc…
Hi Jennie. I didn’t notice I had put 11.95 postage. I was including postage in the price of the item. I will have to sort that out. I live in Newtown thanks for the tips.
Thanksfor all the tips Shazzeth. I didn’t really want to wear the jewellery but you are probably right it would be a good idea to show photos of someone wearing them.
Hi Karen. thanks for the tips.
Hi Brenda. I thought it was the cost of the items not the postage. I will go back and change it. thanks!
Hi. I know what I did with postage now and I am going to change that. I will take some close up photos of my items as well. Thanks
Hi Sasha. I didn’t notice the ;postage but I am going to change it now. I am going to take some close up photos as well As for tags I thought I had added enough tags! I will have to check what metals the surrounds are made of and add that to my descriptions
Hi Alison. You are right I need to add more detailed photos/ They all come in gift boxes but I didn’t put that because I thought people would realise that seeing as they were in the boxes in the photos. I will put more detail about the metal etc. As for postage I didn’t know you had to put about it being royal mail or courier and 1st or 2nd class.I thought I had put enough tags on already.
You don’t have to specify how you are sending it Debbie, but as a buyer, it’s useful to know.
Hi, I’m fairly new as well, and didn’t have any sales for a few weeks , I just kept putting photos on Facebook and Instagram, with my folksy link, I did a few boosted (paid for , never more than £10) Facebook posts , then I started getting sales. I also have a market stall on an artisan/ makers market , and had some post cards printed ‘ introducing’ my folksy shop. Hope this helps !
I just checked and you still haven’t altered your postage…you need to get that done ASAP
I found 7 that still quoted £11.95 for p&p…it only takes a few seconds to change it…I would do that before you concentrate on the photos x
Forgot to say , love your work , definitely sort your postage, think about doing free postage for the U.K, that seems to help, and maybe have some photos that show the pieces more close up, or as others suggested being worn . Good luck, let me know when you have your first sale !
There is a tool in the dashboard to make changes to postage on all of your listings at the same time, which may be useful
