Wow Mick, that’s some construction! Well done. ( I loved this thread, thanks for bringing it back) xxx
I made this Dennis the Menace jumper for two Christmas presents but wont be listing them as they are probably copyrighted subjects
I absolutely love this
Meet Belinda,

Thank you!
Ooh, what a great thread, thanks so much for resurrecting it Mick @SteampunkCreativeEngineering. I love your bike store - it looks really robust and a very clever design.
We put so much love and attention into our non-sale items it’s fabulous to be able to show-and tell-them, and to see everyone elses too. Brilliant Menance jumpers there Pauline @CreationsforTinyTots, and your felted hare is sooo cute Lynne @PaintedHorseArt - they both brough a to my face this morning.
I was chatting to @Bearlescent on Instagram recently about a huge double sided playmat I made many years ago and I promised to dig out the photos. It was for a couple of little boys livng in Saudi, and their mum wanted something to entertain them indoors as it was too hot to play out.
One side of the playmat is a town scene, with roads and a train track, plus various buildings. As you can see my initial drawing was a tad optimistic in how much detail I could fit in, but I still think it’s rather good
The reverse side is a Grand Prix racing track. I’m not sure it’s authentic in scale and cornering but it works if you don’t drive too fast!!
It took months to make - and I ended up taking it on holiday to Florida just to finish it in time for the boys’ grandmother to take it out in her suitcase rather than post it. So it’s been on at least 3 flights.
Wow - looks fabulous!
Oh wow Sharon, it’s brilliant, love it, pleased you found the photos to share it. I wonder whether you will ever make another, perhaps on a smaller scale.
I love Belinda Lynne she’s absolutely adorable Lynne,
Wow so many gorgeous creations here, @VioletFlameGlassArt absolutely stunning work,.
Love the Dennis the Menace sweater @CreationsforTinyTots,
You are very talened @SteampunkCreativeEngineering team with the motorbike store must have taken some planning and making.
All of the pieces are stunning, too many to mention and too far to go back, love the t.shirt @Amberlilly
I will have to keep popping back to this thread.
Yes I’m looking to expand my “for-sale” designs further, so I’ll probably try and do a smaller Town version later this year Debby @Bearlescent. I still have some old patterns drawn up for smaller car and train playmatd so I could merge them without too much work. Not sure if Grand Prix would be widely marketable though?
But they have to wait - I’m doing a few 1m custom playmats at the moment, which I think I can adapt into standard designs - including Tulip Tiger Tea Party which is based on my patchwork quilt theme, and Rapunzel Castle which is more pictorial.
Next I’m going to do some Castle ones in different sizes - with dragons knights and princesses - I’ve found some fabulous fabrics that are not too boy/girl gendered, so that could have wide appeal. Hopefully finished and tested in time for Craft Drop.
And l’ve got “ideas” to adapt my Safari zoo onto a farm theme, and my Under the sea into Mermaids.
Too little time … I need to prioritise
Very pretty print on your t-shirt @Amberlilly , and a lovely draped shape. I’m assuming it’s stretch?
Wow you are busy, I’m looking forward to seeing them Sharon, they all sound absolutely amazing and very unique as well
Thank you Debbie, you’ve encouraged me to get them out and share them.
I’ve avoided doing it as they use different techniques to the ones I make for sale and I’ve always been nervous of putting them alongside my toy tested ones. And worried I might get a custom order for a 3m one
But as long as I’m clear in my posts, I think all will be well.
And I’m on Instagram now, which is great for that sort of thing. I really enjoyed your bear repair post
Ah thanks Sharon @TheOldButton yes it’s stretch. Pattern hides the faults well
I think your mats are amazing. That’s such a clever idea. If I had any young children in the family. They’d love it. @TheOldButton
lol…. Actually can I have a 5 m dinosaur one … only kidding, but I know what you mean. I have just learnt to say ‘sorry no I can’t do ut’ after 10 years. End of last year I passed a few orders for memory bears as I have been struggling to make my larger bears, hence introducing the small ones. The first time I worried the second I was better, 3rd felt ok lol, I gave the name of an amazing memory bear maker to them.
To make a 2m rug like yours would be weeks of work I expect.
Instagram is great for sharing other posts and it is lovely to see what people make outside of their Folksy shop. I’m going to share some bits on IG, but they are not recent makes
The castle pieces sound lovely, I think all lf the ones you have mentioned will be very popular, a brilliant idea for a table or floor mat. My grandson likes to stomp his dinosaurs and cars on my coffee table, I have a couple of small dents, a cover would be perfect. I bought him a rug for his bedroom where it’s a road, shops etc one side and a farm on the other but mass produced so nothing like yours
OMG, a dinosaur theme was one of the first travel mats ones I ever made. It was very rough and ready and certainly not my current standards, but it was a good protoype. It’s on my list to re-do, in various sizes.
Not 3m though
Thanks again Debbie, I’ve been wondering which direction to go in, trying a bit of this and that, and having a rather disjointed shop. But I’ll pull my finger out now and get these designs to market.
I’ve also been thinking of doing them as sew-it-yourself kits - you can road test one for me if you like.
Thank you Sharon @TheOldButton yes, I reawakened it and have posted in it before but I can take no credit for the thread itself, that honour goes to Carol of @Knittingtopia back in 2020!
Love your playmats, Sharon - they must have taken ages!
