Thank you Judith - I will try to catch up with viewing the Folksy videos. That’s a really good tip to put the category in the title! I didn’t even think of that! x

Yes they’re quite helpful. The one with the tip about the category was I think ‘how to make Pinterest work for your small business’.

So much brilliant advice here! Thank you for sharing all of this! I actually love using social media, and enjoy the marketing aspect of things, however it does eat time up!
I’m a very scattergun person in my approach to many things and I’ve thought of making a list of post ideas and not done it, so I take my hat off to your level of good organisation!!

I do something which I’m sure is quite naughty in terms of SEO. I name items based on some theme or idea that is indirectly descriptive but not necessarily to do with the item! For example ‘Luna’ necklace or ‘Just Peachy’ bracelet. Otherwise I just say 'Grey and Orange bracelet, which is factual but not inspiring. I need to give this some thought!!

I quite like that idea of giving things cute names! I think it will certainly draw people in! I will give it a go so thank you for the tip! x

Thank you for this tip and taking the time to share it. I am new to the Folksy Forum and trying to get back up to speed with things on-line and how to market my work.
I had no idea about this, your instructions were easy to follow and I have just changed a few photos ready to upload later in the week. Brilliant

Thank you, Andy. Like you, I am new to the forums. I really want Folksy to work for my business - and everyone else’s. x

Just to note, when you upload images to Folksy they will automatically be titled with your listing title and username.

For example the address for one of your photos is https://imagedelivery.net/0ObHXyjKhN5YJrtuYFSvjQ/i-d73a3523-d89b-41cd-96f5-536ac05c7ead-Button-lot-leather-faux-leather-and-leather-look-pre-loved-Crafty-Ali/display

If you try to save the image it will just take the very last part (display) as the file name, but searches will see the words before that as well.

That’s great to know, thank you! How does that affect Google searches if Folksy is renaming my photos?

It certainly helps those shops that haven’t thought about carefully naming their photos, but as long as you title your listings well, it should help them show up.
For example, that’s the top image result on a Google search for leather button lot.

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to create this thread.

To do list for next week on my days off sorted now. I know changing the name of photos works for websites but I didn’t realize it would have the same effect on selling platforms as well.

I’ve a question regarding changing the titles of products.

Am I right in assuming if you change the title of a product the url will then also change? Also and as a result will you loose all the back links to that product that you worked so hard to generate or will those links then become broken?

No, the links do still work fortunately

That’s good to know

@MinpinTowers The listing links have a number and then the title. The number always stays the same and that’s what’s read to identify the listing. What’s written after that can change (as it will if you rename the item) and you’ll still be able to get to the listing using either the old, new or a completely made up title in the link.

This is absolutely brilliant for me. I am scared stiff because I am not a social media person. I do not know what half the things in your chart. I need very much tuition on this please. I have deliberately put my prices up high, so they will look good with a big discount! But that means my posting is all about discounting!

Hi Kim, I’m just wondering, if I add tags to my pictures before I upload them to Folksy, will they be seen by search engines?

I will be interested in seeing what Folksy have to say as well. I know that Kim said that the Folksy system renames uploaded photos to the listing title, so your title needs to be as descriptive as possible - and with keywords. I have just searched (in Google) for “siren letter writing paper” and my letter paper listed in Folksy is the first image. Although that isn’t the direct phrase from the listing title (which is “Letter Writing Paper - Mermaid Siren”), it is one of my photo tags. NOTE: I also sell this item outside of Folksy, but the search brought up the Folksy listing ahead of the others.

As Folksy turns the image into avif file the tags are removed, I know this because I downloaded one of my own image files and opened it in a hex editor and searched for a word I knew I had added as a tag.

Also if you look up the definition of an avif file it states: AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) is an open, royalty-free image file format specification for storing images or image sequences compressed with AV1 in the HEIF container format.

So the format the image is stored at does not require any payment to create that format of file, however, as it strips out any tags and copyright notice then other internet users may feel that they can reuse the image without your permission or consequence, although in reality you do not need to put a copyright notice on an image for you to own the copyright, it just becomes difficult to prove ownership.
