Monthly Art Chat : November

back from the shopping now…at least I got a KFC out of it…
went to the counter…
Me: Two Three strip meals please…
Man: is that meals you want?
Yes, TWO THREE strip MEALS please.
Man: Two strips or three?

Is it me???..lol…and I thought it was us oldies that got muddled…lol
I have been having a lot of chats with other sellers about the new VAT rules that are coming in in 2015. Initially it is for people who sell digital downloads…HOWEVER…over on the bay,…they are going to start charging VAT on ALL sales in 2015 (be warned)…also in 2017 ALL selling on ALL sites will incur the new VAT rules. This means that our profits are going to plummet unless we put our prices up a lot to cover it all. All brought about by rules from the EU…Nigel Ferrage is nearer to being Prime Minister than he thinks…!! They are trying to kill the small businesses. They do not realise that people will close their businesses and go onto benefits so that will drain the economy even more. …watch this space.
By the time this happens, I will be 70…(will I care I wonder…lol)…
Great work ladies,.
Roz, those are fantastic and my favourite is the horse…
Pam, that is beautiful…
Stephie I hope your daughter recovers quickly ear infections are nasty and can make you feel sick and giddy…

Blimey Brenda I have just been reading up on the new EU VAT Rules, how bizarre. I can see why people are upset, effectively if you as an individual sell anything on-line to any country in the EU, you as the seller have to deduct the tax, how the heck your gonna do that via here or the dark side I’ve no idea, unless here and E88y have some whizzy new software to calculate it for you (there are potentially 28 different rates!!). And unlike the UK there is no minimum turnover threshold. Our own HMRC has a service where you can register once and record your sales and they will pay over the monies for you, but I think for me I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle for the odd sale to Europe so I’ll amend my postage to UK, and non-EU states only, that’s gonna take some time over Christmas with a glass or two of wine I expect! I guess though Brenda the VAT will be added after sale, so in theory we should get the same amount but the customer will have to pay more.

Hi everyone waving yoohoo, feeling a bit under the weather tonight got a sore throat and chest is tight, I never ever get colds, but I guess with all the stress of this year I’m probably bit run down letting the bugs in!

Let’s hope UKIP rescue us from the EU is all I can say!

I’m so glad I’ve stocked up on so many handmade goodies. If VAT starts being charged then I’ll probably have to bow out of the handmade goods market, it may get too expensive for me.

I know…it is crazy isn’t it !!! I can see us all going back to craft fairs at this rate…
UKIP will get loads of votes from craft workers…lol…If it isn’t until 2017, I will be 70 by then so who cares…ha ha…
I have just listed this one…

Hi everyone

Margaret the new VAT rules won’t effect you when buying items in the UK, unless of course the Government puts vat up! Hopefully the on-line sites will come up with an automatic system, otherwise it will be a major headache for small businesses selling to the EU. So much for encouraging exports!

I’ve just done a blog post including Folksy artists http://annabelsglassdesigns.wordpress.com/2014/11/19/happy-dance-and-british-art/

You’re planning on retiring at 70 then Brenda?
Hope not, we’ll miss you!

Oh I see, thanks Annabel I was quite worried about it!

Morning all, waving hi to everyone.
Love the little twinkle of glitter in the one Brenda

Ha ha Annabel…no chance of me retiring…I just meant that at 70 who cares…lol…I intend to paint until I drop and hopefully selling until I drop…lol…My inspiration is a lady called Millie Gift Smith who is 93 and does a painting every day !
Morning all
Max, that is stunning…beautiful colours…
Waving Margaret.
If we all have to register for VAT I will just ask my accountant friend to do it. The only problem seems to be that we will have to pay higher fees, which means all prices will have to go UP. They are trying to kill off the small businesses …what they fail to realise is that those that give up will go onto benefits and drain the economy even more…silly people…ha ha

Gorgeous clematis Max, beautiful colours.

I’ve just had a bad ebay experience. I bought a tiger long stitch kit which although it was described as ‘used’ the description stated he had not got round to starting it and it was in good condition. When it arrived this morning it had already been started, the canvas stank strongly of smoke and was discoloured and fit only for the bin. I’ve told the seller I want to return it. Watch this space!

Wow! Your picture is stunning, Max!
How disappointing for you, Margaret. I hope everything is resolved quickly.
Waving, all!

That is awful Margaret…I think you could claim misrepresentation on it. Can you keep a copy of the fact that he stated…".not started"… when it had been.? I think ebay can get your money back for you but sadly I think you lose the P&P. And of course you have the opportunity to give them negative feedback, which will put other buyers off.
Waving Pam

Ebay will be on your side Margaret. Good luck!

Max your ink painting is gorgeous, I love it.

Annabel thanks so much for including my beach huts in your blog

VAT is something I haven’t too much attention to since my takings are too low to pay it. Looks like I’ll have to get reading up  Max is it just Europe and not the UK that is affected?

We had a really bad night, Kit’s ear is hugely painful so I was up every 2 hours administering medication. She’s on 3 different painkillers that she can take in rotation, and is in too much pain to know which ones she can take and when she can take them. Fortunately we’re off to see the ENT specialist this afternoon, I hope he can help.

I’ve removed all of my larger commissions from my shop to relieve the pressure, I was worried that I’d get some in for Xmas and then be stressed out trying to do them in time. I’m leaving my dolls house and ACEO ones in my shop as they don’t take too long to do, and am about to list a couple more cute Xmas pet portraits.

Is anyone else having trouble with the cursor jumping all over the place on the forum this morning? I’ve disconnected my mouse and it’s still happening. Very frustrating! Perhaps I’ll reboot.

Stephie that sounds awful, Kit must be suffering terribly. I do hope the pain eases soon.

Stephie…I have a jumping cursor and have always had it…remember me saying that I once nearly had a date with a 35 year old man because the cursor jumped and clicked on a pop up ad…Now, when I click on anything I have to VERY QUICKLY move the cursor to the far right of the page or I am in trouble !!
Also Stephie, there is a Folksy thread about the VAT and digital downloads and I think there is a link on there, explaining the whole VAT thing…
the bay are going to UP their charges in 2015 to cover extra taxes…even if it doesn’t apply to you…everyone will have to pay more. They are trying to cripple the small businesses.
Hope your daughter makes a quick recovery …ear infections are nasty.

My ebay issue is being resolved. Not only will he refund the cost of the kit and the original postage, but he’ll refund the cost of the return postage as well and apologised for the trouble! I think it was the threat of negative feedback that did it

Sadly my watercolour Christmas card workshop has been cancelled due to insufficient interest. Never mind, I’ll find something else to do.

Good news on the eBay refund Margaret

Thanks Brenda, I’ll go and have a read. My cursor seems to be behaving itself since I rebooted - I don’t think i could cope with that permanently!

Here’s my novelty Xmas pet portraits
