Hi everyone Happy Sunday hope you are all having a nice quiet & relaxing day
I am still trying to get my head around shipping costs if sending outside of the UK just incase a miracle happens & I actually make my first sale boom boom !
After reading so much about sending to Germany I have decided to opt out of that one but is this the same for all EU countries
What about the US & Canada I haven’t seen anything on the forums about silly charges for sending there…?
Thank you x Michelle

USA is a good place to start your sending overseas journey. They have a nice high ($800) threshold before the customer has to pay any duties, you don’t need any special licenses to send packaging there and the postal service is (normally) quick and reliable. (My last 4 folksy sales have all been to the USA)
Canada has a much lower threshold (CAN$20) before the customer has to pay duties which means parcels can be delayed clearing customs especially if you haven’t got your paper work quite right. No need for a packaging license.
Germany is one of 6 EU countries which currently require you to have a packaging license and then other countries have random rules you are supposed to follow (eg Italy requires you to have recycling instructions on your packages in italian).

For USA orders up to the value of $800 (about £640) will not have any additional fees added to them.
For Canada orders up to CAN$20 (about £12) will not have any additional fees added to them.

Just to say that I have shipped to the USA quite a bit and other international destinations - I use Royal Mail International tracked and signed for and it is great but not cheap. Most of my USA customers have been super and appreciate the tracking (I give them the tracking number after I have posted the item so they can follow delivery progress). I take my items to the post office personally - they tell me how much it will cost according to weight and I have a customs form to fill out - it is all simple and the post office will tell you what you need to do. My items are quite light so it is no trouble and I would certainly recommend selling internationally BUT NOT TO EUROPE at the moment (I’m being cautious and not delivering to certain countries until we get clarity on registration and packaging requirements - it may not be cost effective for tiny companies to sell to some countries). I always stress in my listings that international delivery can be slow and subject to additional local taxes, customs tariffs and regulations - I make it clear the customer is responsible for these additional costs. Hope this helps
