Need some gift idea help if possible!

Hi folks! I’m looking for some gift ideas & hoping for some help. In 2 weeks it’s my mother & father in laws birthday.
I always feel like I struggle to buy for them despite having a lot in common- my husband and I have been buying for them for around 10 years now and I feel as though we’ve done all the good ideas before.

They do/have done a lot for my husband and I, and we always want to make an effort in the gifts we get them as a small way of saying thank you.

My mother in law is very outdoorsy in terms of walking, bird/wildlife spotting.
She knits in her spare time (just the odd thing for herself or family) she also enjoys beautiful things for her home (usually well out of my prize area) she’s the sort of person who buys Country Living magazine & would like her home to look that way- if that makes sense. (Don’t we all!!)

My father in law is also outdoorsy in the same way. He has an old Land Rover which he loves! He enjoys fishing & the odd game of golf, and loves outdoor shops.
They both enjoy weekends away to beautiful places and going out for meals together.

While I certainly (and sadly) don’t have a fortune to spend, I have maybe up to £100 to spend in total. But I was hoping due to the handmade nature of Folksy and the creative eye of everyone on here, that people could suggest something? I often feel like what I find isn’t good enough so get tired of looking pretty quickly.

Thank you!!

Susannah

I’d love to suggest some of jewellery but I’m not sure it fits the bill so I’ll recommend something from another folksy shop. My mum knits socks for me and when I needed some new ones to go in my boots when I’m out and about she told me to look for bluefaced leicester wool as it is supposed to be super soft yet harder wearing than other wools. This lead me to

which would make one special pair of socks. She has other colour ways available so I’m sure there would be something your M in L would like to knit up and look good peaking out over walking boots whilst spotting birds. My mum is still knitting mine so I can’t comment on the durability yet but I do have something else knitted in BFL yarn and it is super soft.
Hope that helps
Sasha

I have lots of lovely nuno felted scarves in my shop that might suit your mother in law - heres just one example

For your father in law what about this blanket he could sit on or have over his lap while fishing or it could be a joint present to use on summer picnics.

I have lots of different felted items in my shop from pictures to notebooks, bags, scarves, doorstops, jewellery, home decor and gifts. Not sure I’ve got a lot for a man but I could always make something - I recently made a grey, black and white A4 removable notebook cover for my Dad.

I have this little painting of a butterfly if you think they might like some art related to their outdoorsy interests. There are other paintings in my shop, too!

Hi,
How about some unique mosaics?
I make house numbers which could be a nice joint gift; or something for the garden, I also make ornaments which are popular as gifts…?

Good luck with your shopping, I am sure you will receive lots of lovely suggestions on here!!
Liz

Thanks guys! Great ideas! Will discuss with hubby- he has to have a say too afterall! (Apparently!) haha

If he’s anything like my Hubby, he’ll say “whatever you think will be fine” he drives me nuts (although I think he does it so if it’s not right he can say I chose it!)

Bird, wildlife, outdoor lovers, how about a garden bird bath? This design is very popular with male and female customer, but I’ve got lots more to choose from in my shop -

I do birds so you’re welcome to have a peruse in my shop.

How about a hand-dyed silk scarf - they’re practical as well as pretty, and can be worn tied around the neck or head outdoors, or used to dress up an outfit indoors.

I also have bags, cushions, book covers - all great gift ideas for the discerning lady (or gent)

How about a piece of very unique original art.

This is painted in encaustic wax and very unique. It’s £60 and one of my larger pieces and comes in a double mount ready to frame. The wax has a great depth of colour and a lovely sheen and people say they are a talking point too as they are always surprised they are created in hot wax using heat tools.

I bought a lovely cushion from @helkatdesign perfect for a stylish country home.
Perhaps you could get them a joint pressie and get a pair.

Hi Susannah.
I know what it is like. My stepmother’s home is out of a magazine, literally. She has exquisite taste and also has the money to indulge. For her birthday last year I made a mirror for her out of some of her precious keepsakes. Her daughter went through the house for me and picked up a few items that were sitting in the cupboard that were broken but that she couldn’t bear to through out. She sent them to me (from Toronto). The post mistress laughed when she saw “broken crockery & fashion accessories, NCV” on the CN22. Anyway, I took the items she sent me and created a really beautiful mirror. It was her taste as it was her stuff! She loved it! I even put a small picture of her recently deceased mother (99 years old). I wish I had a picture of it but I wanted to get it out as soon as it was grouted so I didn’t get a chance for a snapshot. Many of my mirrors have been made out of pique assiette in the same manner. Please, take a look and if it is something you would like, Don’t hesitate to contact me
if I can help. You will also see change out of your £100. Good luck, Leslie

I have some hand knitted cushion covers that are quite country living-ish - and all my profits this month are going to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Arrgh almost too many ideas now!! Thanks everyone for your help! Going to have a good mooch now.
Thanks all!! Really appreciate it- and hopefully it’s helped some other people in similar situations (you never know!!):blush:

I have some handmade cushions featuring my own designs, most of them nature inspired. They may be nice for her house.
All currently at reduced prices.

Outdoorsy people appreciate British wool and Harris tweed, so they would probably like my cushions: https://folksy.com/shops/rosesworkshop/collections/37411

You could buy a pair the same, or an individual one for each of them.

We make handmade men’s leather belts, although we stock a few of the most popular sizes we can make belts to order to fit. We have a variety of styles and either black of hand dyed all with stainless steel buckles. We also have some ladies handmade leather handbags but unfortunately are outside your price range, and a few ladies belts as well but would be happy to make a 1" wide one and hand dye that if you like.
Feel free to have a look through and see it there is anything you like Hazel
