New Seller Advice on Copy & Paste

Hello there,
I just recently set up my shop ‘Artily Ever Crafter’ and listed a few of my hand made pendants and abstract image hangers and feeling a little overwhelmed by everything and confused by other things, I decided to tip toe over to the Folksy Forum for some advice.
I recently read that you shouldn’t copy and paste your product information when using different sites, but is it okay to do if you are using copy/paste when listing similar items on your shop page, particularly when you are listing the same product dimensions, materials used etc? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated, thank you

I only ever wrote one Folksy listing from scratch. The rest are all copy pasted from that original one way back in 2009. Why reinvent the wheel.

When I create a new listing I simply copy one which is similar and edit it as appropriate.

Love love your shop name and your shop too of course.

I generally copy my listings for similar items in order to keep tags and postage info etc the same and then I edit the title and description. As long as you change around the title a bit and edit the description so the 2 are not identical you should be fine. Its really hard when you make several near identical items but hopefully the roll out of variations later this month should help with that.

I do the same as Joy and Roz - the things I make are all part of an imaginary world for children and so I like to describe the story background as part of my listings. Therefore I copy and paste the main body of the description and then alter it appropriately to describe the item. I’d be there for ever if I had to type it all every time.

Hello Joy,

Thank you for getting back to me, and thank you for the comment on my shop.

I will get on to re editing my listings, but keep some parts the same. So long as it doesn’t appear to be completely copy and pasted, I suppose that is the key.

Thanks again

Hi Roz

Thanks for the advice.

I have been changing the titles and dimensions/materials etc but need to do some further editing on my listings.

It’s good to be a bit clearer on what to do.

Thanks again

Maria

Hi Martine,

Thank you for the advice. I was initially confused by what I read, so it is really good to hear what other sellers, including yourself, have been doing. I will get onto re editing my listings soon.

Thanks again
Maria
