Hi everyone. Just set up a shop but it doesn’t seem as if it will work for me as I make custom furniture on demand which takes 4 to 6 weeks to produce. Several things on the listing form are not aimed at people like me such as colour - I can make furniture in any colour, price - I can make different sizes so each size is a different price, delivery time - the maximum is 3 weeks which is not long enough. If anyone has any advice on a way I can do this I’d be grateful as it seems the ideal place to sell otherwise. Thank you in advance!
Welcome!
Folksy isn’t particular flexible with listings, but maybe you could have a few small ready-made pieces that you could list as samples of your work, with a couple of ‘made-to-order’ listings for items that don’t take as long to make as the bigger pieces.
You could mention on each listing that larger custom pieces can be ordered by contacting you and create custom listings for those. As long as you agree a time-frame with the buyer, I don’t think it would matter about the posting times being longer - just get it all in writing!
Hi Christine thanks for replying. I can make some of the smaller items and keep in stock so I will do that. One of my main pieces is a dining table and I just don’t have the space to store any unfortunately! I will try some smaller pieces and see how it goes. Thanks again. Andy
If you have a table already made, you could perhaps include it somewhere in your other photos (as a prop maybe?) and mention in the listing that similar tables can be made-to-order.
Or create a banner for your shop that shows some of your larger pieces?
Hi, welcome I hope you have a good time selling here
I’m sure people will understand about your dispatch times as long as you make it clear in the description, you could also add it to the announcement section at the top of your shop and in the about me section, just to make sure, as I know some buyers tend not to read every bit so having it in more than one place means they are more likely to spot it!
Also link to your social media, and show off you previous custom orders.
Thanks Amy those are good tips.
I have added a table as my first listing so I will see how it goes. Thanks for your advice everyone!
