Pre-orders

Hi. Does anyone know how to set up pre-orders on Folksy listings please?
I have a brand new product which I have had lots of enquiries about, but am waiting for some woven labels to stitch on them. They should be here in the next week.
I’m wondering if it’s ‘custom’ order or extending the shipping time.
Thank you so much in advance, Helen x

If I were you I would promote them on social media with a link to your Folksy shop front, not the not yet publsihed listing and add a big banner to the post to say ‘COMING SOON’ and ‘PM ME’ to reserve.
Then as soon as your labels arrive and they are ready hit your shop with your listing and another promotion to say so.

Thank you Joy.
I have started a list of people who have contacted me, it was just a fellow Folksy seller on Instagram just suggested setting up a pre-order on here. Hope you have a lovely weekend, Helen x

You could set up a listing with an extended shipping time, and make it clear in the title and description that it won’t be immediately dispatched (like you would for a normal made to order item).

The custom tick box is for things that have been personalised, as it exempts them from returns (as it’s probably not something you’d easily be able to sell to someone else), which doesn’t apply if something is just made to order.

In that case I would simply say that there is no ‘pre-order’ functionality on here apart from giving extended shipping but I wouldn’t do that myself.

Thanks Joy. I need to think about it x

If you know you’re definitely going to be able to fulfil the orders by X date I’d get them listed with extended shipping and communicate with customers just to make sure they understand and are happy with this. This way you’ve got the orders secured and can get started on the parts you can make while you await the labels.

Thank you so much. I know the labels have been made, but just waiting for a shipping confirmation. Understandably, everything is taking so much longer at the moment though, isn’t it! Helen x

Personally I wouldn’t go for the extended shipping option as we all know that so many people don’t read things they don’t want to see. The last thing you want is someone ordering and then complaining about how long the item takes to ship! Joy’s idea of promoting on social media with a ‘Coming Soon’ banner is a great idea.

Hi. Thank you so much. I think I agree, would be really disappointed if that happened!
I have started taking requests from people to put them aside, and will let them know once the listing is live. People seem to be very understanding. Helen x
