Contact Paypal as others have said. Never click on any links from suspicious emails. Always look at the sender address, there is often something peculiar about the address when these come in, and I have had many pretending to be Paypal, BT, Halifax, and others.
Many scams frighten you by saying unless you do x, or click on a link to your account, they will stop the service. It’s an old trick, but effective with a few who fall for it.
You can always forward to the security bit of paypal for their comment, they are very hot on this and are inundated with people pretending to be Paypal. It’s not ever going to go away.
I had someone pretending to be Barclaycard the other year. This was before all the publicity on the scam. They must have telephoned me twenty-five times wanting me to key in my pin number on a touchphone and saying my card was compromised and money had been taken out by someone pretending to be me. They even sent a courier for my credit card .
The courier was so surprised when I opened the door, and fired off four or five flash photos in his face ! Unfortunately, he was not part of the villains , and probably didn’t get paid for his trip to me. I gave him an envelope which had inside the calling card of the local crime prevention officer !
The courier’s satnav had the address of where he had to take the credit card to, but the police were not interested !
The police were’nt interested as I didn’t give my credit card out or lose any money, but said this scam was becoming widespread. Months later it was all over the media and many people did fall for it, and are still doing so.
Be really careful.
