Hi all
Is anyone a member of these and if so, are they worthwhile? So far I’ve not had much success with online or in person fairs so wondering if these will be of any help.
Thx

Hi Alison, I find it so hard to judge with it having been such a dire couple of years. There are so many online markets and new platforms, I’m wondering if it’s a case of overkill.
I have done a few and had no sales during but a slight flurry afterwards so if you have the funds it may be worth it for the exposure. It’s the same a browsers in shops, they look , take note and then (hopefully) come back when they have a gift to buy.

Thank you. Yes there are so many online places popping up now it’s hard to know where are the best places to concentrate efforts. At the moment I’m spending far more out than bringing in, so I really want to concentrate on what will be effective both energy and money-wise. I’m not, as a consumer, that convinced by online fairs myself so I think that’s one of my hesitations.
Hi Ya
I’m not with Pedddle but I do have a tresstle account, mainly because Folksy have run a couple of online fairs through them. Also Tresstle don’t have a monthly fee just a one off joining fee where as Pedddle is a pay monthly which I can’t really justify!
I’ve done a couple of fairs through Tresstle, both Folksy and others although I tend to stick to the cheaper ones! To be honest I haven’t had many sales as a result of the fairs but my views are often much higher on those days so I think it does help to get your shop seen by a few more people who may come back when they want something. I also don’t tend to offer any special offers on fair days which means people don’t have an incentive to buy on that day, although it’s something I might consider in future.
Hope this helps,
Cheers Lou
Thanks Lou, that’s very interesting. I forgot that you don’t have to have pedddle to use tresstle
Just joined tresstle to submit to the spring market and I was just wondering, you know the other events you can see on the platform, can anyone apply to those? It’s just because some are listed as by certain collectives and I wasn’t sure if you had to be a member of those collectives to apply to the markets?
Hi Jessica,
I am with Tresstle (not Pedddle though) joined last year, and I did a couple of other Markets they had, as well as the Folksy Christmas one - although Storm Arwen came knocked us out for 6 + plus days at that time so couldn’t join in the Folksy one - so yes you just apply and see if they accept you.
On how they went, I didn’t sell anything but it does raise your profile, and then potential future sales hopefully! Judy.
If they are anything like the Folksy ones then yes you would need to be a member of the collective (eg just a card)/ have a shop on the appropriate platform to accepted into the market. I’m one of the team captains that was sorting out the applications at christmas and we had a few which we rejected as they didn’t have folksy shops so you can still apply even if you are not part of the appropriate collective but you might not get accepted. Some like the handmade hour ones are open to everyone to apply to.
Great thanks for the info thought that might be the case.
Hi. I think it depends on the market. I’ve just taken part in the AndSoToShop Spring Market, and I’m not a member of ASTS. Helen x
Hmm ok it’s very difficult to tell as they don’t seem to list specifics on the tresstle listings. How have you found these sort of events for sales etc? Not done one before.
Yes, I know what you mean, not very obvious on some whether you need to be a member of that group. I find online markets quite mixed. I try to look at them as a marketing/promotional exercise rather than getting sales (although, obviously that’s what we all want!) I think it’s a good way of customers finding new makers, and they may buy from you in the future x
Thanks really appreciate you taking the time to reply, definitely helps getting that perspective on it
The most interesting fact is that both Tresstle and Peddle are effectively the same company, they belong to the same person. Not many makers know this and join both. What’s more some events are organised by Peddle on Tresstle platform. So if you have joined Tresstle and paid your fee, you’ll then pay Peddle (as the organiser of your particular sale) a fee, too. Meaning you paid the same company twice.
I believe Pedddle is the original company and is much more about actual in person markets in the outside world. Tresstle was set up for solely online events after the pandemic hit so people could hold online markets. Most of the online markets on tresstle are organised by other groups like Just a Card, Folksy and other creative groups. On most of the social media profiles as well as the blurb for the Ukraine market I think they do talk about it being a sister company, honestly don’t think there’s anything fishy. Plus you didn’t have to be a member of Pedddle to take part in the online market for Ukraine.
