Pedddle membership + online craft fair collaboration

Hi everyone. We’ve got some exciting news! We’re going collaborating with Pedddle on a special online craft fair on Sunday 31st May.

The virtual market is going to be FREE for Pedddle members who have a Folksy shop (there is usually an additional charge of £5 per event) and Pedddle have set up a special 6-month membership, which is currently only open to Folksy sellers. Here’s the link to apply https://join.pedddle.com/

For anyone who isn’t already familiar with Pedddle, it’s a brilliant resource for artists, designers & makers to find creative markets and interesting local craft fairs, and connect with event organisers as well as other stallholders. It has a great community, particularly on Instagram, and they (usually!) hold regular meet-ups in real life too as well as offering lots of mentoring and support online. Membership is curated, so there is an application process but at the moment it’s ONLY OPEN to Folksy sellers.

The Folksy + Pedddle Craft Fair will be held on a specially set up page on Pedddle.com and we’ll be promoting it across our combined social media channels.

Alongside this event we’re also planning a series of our own Folksy Local online craft fairs. There’ll be more news on this soon – we’re just working on some clever behind-the-scenes stuff to help make it happen, which is almost ready to release! So if you don’t get into Pedddle, hopefully that’s something to look forward to!

This sounds great! The Pedddle market at the weekend was really well run, I’d recommend applying to join.

Hi,
Your post says that the membership is currently open to Folksy seller, but when I click on the link it send me to a waiting list page. Is that the correct link?

Thanks

Hi Vicky. It is! It wasn’t working properly but should be now.

It is a very small saving… £1… To join something unknown to me ( which doesn’t suggest good promotion) for 6 months when the monthly fee is £6. And they want my bank details before I am accepted … I think no.

Hi Joy. I’ve replied to your comment in the Folksy Clubhouse FB group but I’m posting it here too, so you don’t miss it.

The discount on the membership itself is very small, but with this offer Folksy sellers can join the online Folksy x Pedddle market for free (they usually cost £5 per event), and the applications are currently only open to Folksy people.

Pedddle is a really great community, and Nicki who runs it is incredibly energetic and supportive of all her members, which is why we wanted to do something together. We also wanted to give Folksy sellers who usually rely on craft fairs as an additional source of income an opportunity to grow their online presence (you get your page on Pedddle that links through to their Folksy shop), reach another audience, and make new connections (which you might normally be able to do face to face at markets).

Pedddle is relatively new to the craft scene, but it’s growing and we’ve been super impressed by everything we seen Nicki do. We’ve spoken to lots of makers who love being part of it and have found the support invaluable. We understand that money is really tight for a lot of people though, and that not everyone will be in a position to join – which is one of the reasons we’re planning our own Folksy Local online fairs too. More on those soon!

Thanks Camilla xx

Well it seems Ms Peddddddle does not want my glass on her site… What a good thing I stopped my application at the point of having to give my bank account details !!

Maybe of course she has seen my post above… after all I see no other reason to be rejected. I’ve been selling on Folksy for 11 years, I promote it left right and centre including on my shop front only website which I addressed him to…and am generally somewhere or other in the Best Sellers list…
My feelings are not hurt as I was not continuing with my application anyway

Hi Joy,
Unfortunately your application to Pedddle wasn’t successful this time.
Thanks for taking the time to apply.
Best wishes,
Nicki

Hi Joy. Sorry to hear that. We have no input into the selection process for Pedddle, as it’s a curated site that’s entirely separate from Folksy. We still think your work is fabulous and hopefully you can join one of the Folksy Local online markets that we’re planning - if you want to!

Yes. I have joined too. Really exciting news.
Thank you
SallyAnn

I tried to join only there seems to be a problem with the form as it has overtype all over it and will not allow me to complete the required fields. I will try later.

You Will need to have an Instagram account as that is their main social media reach

Hi Joy. I wasn’t accepted either. Ha ha ha. … Hi SallyAnn. This has been a difficult decision but unfortunately your application has not been successful. You seem really positive for everyone on your Instagram Account, and do lots of sharing. I will ensure that your Mandate is cancelled. Best wishes Nicki

Third person who also had a Tbch shop I know of who has been rejected…

I really don’t think that has any influence on Nicki’s decision, Joy. But we have no control over who is or who isn’t selected for Pedddle - it’s entirely separate from Folksy, we’re just collaborating on this market.

Pedddle has a guide to their selection criteria here, if that helps - https://pedddle.com/faqs/ From speaking to Nicki, I believe that as their main social media focus is Instagram, and that’s where they base their community, how sellers use Instagram has a large part to play in their selection process.

Camilla I would not even suggest you have an influence. What Sally Ann’s post does though is highlight my upfront objection… Giving an ‘unknown’ company your bank details, setting up a direct debit from your account. ??? . That is a no-no as far as I am concerned and an insecure practice. There are many safer ways of making payment.

Ps Sally Ann has a lovely well followed IG page.

Hi Joy, I just had a chat with Nicki about the payment system, to check how it works. She said that you used to sign up first and then, if you were accepted, you’d then be asked for your bank details. However, chasing people for payment was taking up so much time they had to switch to this system, where people apply and the bank details are logged by GoCardless so it’s ready to go once you get the go-ahead. She confirmed that Pedddle don’t actually store any of the bank details or have access to them. But I do understand your reservations.
