Pinterest - personal or business and how DOES it work?

Hi, although I’m new on Folksy I have been using Pinterest business account in the past for my jewellery. I know all the obvious pros of business Pinterest, like analytics and being able to claim my website and pay for ads. But does anyone else find that with Pinterest business account unless you pay for ads your pins won’t be seen and discovered? I’ve given up on Pinterest altogether because of that and am now wondering if perhaps having a personal account would reach wider audience? Or perhaps I’m not Pinning correctly… I wish there was a detailed tutorial somewhere of exactly what to do step by step. Thanks!
ps I’m Nat McIntosh Jewellery on Pinterest by the way.

I have both personal and business pinterest accounts but forget to toggle between the 2 so use the personal one most of the time. I’m not sure I’m using it correctly either but have had the facebook group ‘pinterest for creatives’ suggested to me as a source of info on how to use it properly/ effectively (not got round to using that FB group properly yet so I’m still rather clueless).
There is also this post on the folksy blog

Thank you Sasha, I will have a read.

I’ve been trying to figure this out myself lately and bookmarked a good video about it, but on my other device, so when I’ve got that going I’ll post here.
From what I’ve gleaned so far Pinterest loves you to create pins and keywords are a big thing, which is a whole other headache. When it comes to a business account it says to create boards themes that echo your work or elements of it and pin things other than just your pieces to them, maybe think about the “lifestyle” of your ideal customer and other things they might like.

When it comes to creating pins it’s good to have a consistent look so you can create a pin template to add your work images to and one vid I watched said you should create 3-4 different pins for each product highlighting different elements (angles of pics etc).

Oh yeah just remembered you should pin regularly, ideally at least once a day.

I’m defo out of date when It comes to Pinterest but one thing I have picked up is that how it works and rates activity is a changeable feast so would recommend also doing some research on the latest thinking e.g. watch recent YouTube videos on the subject.

I heard that how you operate on Pinterest e.g. number and frequency of pins and how you pin seriously affects your stats and visibility there. I’ve not researched this for a few months so what I last heard may have changed again.

Hi, just found you on Pinterest! Yes you’re right, we’re supposed to pin other people’s pins that will complement what we do - I just found out about it. I actually stopped using Pinterest as they changed their interface and now I find it very difficult to navigate it. For example, there is a selection of images just above the profile photo… I would like to change those images but there’s no access to that that I can see, like normally there would be a little icon in a shape of a pen, but it’s not there…
Anyway, thanks for your reply!

Yeah I think that’s an automated thing now which shows the last things you’ve pinned :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I know, it changes all the time and before you know it you’re having to figure it out again, that’s the problem… I’ve spent 2 hours now trying to understand what’s new but by next week or next month will have to to it again… it drives me nuts

which was a year ago ha ha!

Here’s the link to the vid, hope it’s O.K to post here if not I’m sure admin folks will delete. It’s got some really good tips and breaks it down quite clearly.

I have both personal and business. When I add a product to Folksy, I then add a product photo from my phone. Select the + option and then under ‘Create’ select Pin then select Next at top, you should then see a page with ‘Title’ Give your pin a title’. Add Description of product. Destination Website Add. You’ll then get the option as to where you want to save to and this should then create a new post in your business account, and you’ll get that option to promote. Hope this helps. Katie

sorry to be a pain, but when you say select the + option is that from the Folksy app on your phone or from your Photo Gallery on your phone, please? I can see a + at the bottom of the Folksy app, but that only lets me create a new listing for Folksy…

Sorry, it’s from Pinterest page !

I’ve just finished a challenge this week with the Social Giraffe on using Pinterest. It was absolutely fabulous so worth getting on their mailing list to hear when next one is. I think it might have been in a Folksy group I heard it recommended but can’t remember. Anyway they do have a few free resources you can download: https://training.thesocialgiraffe.co.uk/

Rules on how Pinterest works definitely seem to change regularly. Key advice that has changed was no pinning other people’s stuff you want to drive all the traffic to your sites. And 3 pins in a day 7 days a week is good but consistency is the key.

There’s an American specialist as well who is good Simple Pin Media. Podcasts or blog version. Well worth following.

That’s great. Yes, we are now following each other on P too. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for passing on the info and tips . I can see the “business” sense in no posting other people’s stuff but definitely going to keep doing that as I like the creative community. I know when I’m looking at Pinterest I like to see variety, whether it’s someone’s business or personal account. The boards that immediately loose my interest are the ones that are too samey and too full on in the promo.
