Post Office staff

I send my cards large letter post as they are 3D and since I have been on folksy ( several years ) I have always filled in a CN22 form for countries outwith the Eu. I mostly use the royal mail online site to pay and print the postage and I am asked to print out a Cn22 .
So today I went to tthe post office and asked if they could give me some cn22 forms to save me printing them out. usually thats no problem but this asistant said you dont need them for large letters. I said I thought you did . No she insisted . She told me she’s worked there for 2 1/2 years and she has never used them for a large letter so I told her I’ve been sending large letters overseas for 5 years and always needed one of them but no she disagreed, The queue was big by this time so let it be. I just dont trust my local post office. In the past theyhave tried to send my large letters as normal letters until I correct them.
Am I correct?

If your large letter contains goods you are selling then I believe you have to fill in the form

Yes your right Eileen you do need the customs form if there are goods in the Large Letter package. The same thing happened to me once with a large letter going to USA, a new assistant at the post office insisted that it didn’t need the customs form even when I told her the other staff there had always put them on. Luckily the recipient received the package but I was very nervous in case they didn’t. I did look it up on Royal Mail website and it does state CN22 form needed on large letter if goods in the package.

My post office always told me I didn’t need one too, but I always felt it was safer to put one on just in case. Especially as they do contain goods and not a letter.

Staff at our local one are brilliant - even though it is just a counter in local Spar - open until 7, at weekends and only 5 mins away. It’s fab.

you are so lucky , our post office staff are so unhelpful You would think their training would cover postage prices. I think its only confusing because we are getting told different advice!

You definitely need them…I sell passport covers which go as a large letter and have always filled in the customs form.

The lady in our post office is lovely. She is really friendly and very interested in my little mice. She always wants to know where they are off to and often tells them to behave as she puts them in the post bag. Like someone above said, our post office is open from early morning until late at night and I love going in there to post my parcels. She is so friendly and helpful to everyone.

I’ve always been asked to fill in a customs form whenever I’ve sent things abroad, and my packages are usually very small.
The staff at our PO are friendly and helpful but annoying. Even when there is a long queue, they try and sell you insurance or phone deals. It’s still oddly quiet in there- either people aren’t sending out much stuff this year or they’ve all found a less annoying Post Office!

Unlike staff in the Post Office branch the ones on the Spar PO counter only really have to do one thing and that’s handle postage so they are very good and there is very low staff turnover and queues aren’t massive. Whereas staff at the PO have to do all sorts of other stuff as well so I guess that has an impact ?

I love my local post office staff.

Post goes at 4.30pm but don’t like to be in the post office 3 - 4pm as that’s when the school children are in stocking up on sweeties.
All ready with my parcels at 4pm when I found another order had come in.
No problem Bob stuck while I packaged and I was ready at 4.15.

Ooops temperature outside minus 2. Windscreen wipers frozen solid to windscreen. 10 minutes later and de-iced I arrived at post office to find postie emptying the box.

He waited while Jo sorted out and stamped my 5 small packages , said ā€œit’s ok I’m always earlyā€ and off they went in his bag.
I wouldn’t change post offices for the world.

On a similar vein my postman is amazing too

Being rural and forgetful I will often forget to lock my door at night, and the postman will helpfully put my key in the porch for me if it’s still in the outside lock!

He will also leave parcels in the porch rather than out in the rain and I am often woken up by his cheerful ā€˜ā€˜hello’’ as he opens the door to deliver my parcels

My mum, meanwhile,is horrified at my unlocked door…

I also really love my post office, and - with the exception of the one lady who will just let a label fall on a parcel without smoothing it down, the service is fantastic!

Friendly postmen are one thing, over friendly postmen another. Thank goodness he’s gone now, but the first time I encountered him at the door he said ā€œFeel my handā€(it was very cold). I can’t remember if I did, but I remember thinking ā€œWhat’s he going to ask me to feel next?ā€. I spent the next several years walking to work on a parallel road to avoid meeting him!

But what is it with posties and shorts???
Frost, snow…winter…they seem to veer between shorts and waterproofs with nothing in between!

It was minus 2 when the postie collected my parcels from the post office. He was indeed wearing shorts !
