Posting to Australia

Are there any potters who post to Australia? I know they are super fussy about items through customs. Anyone any advice info? I make functional, glazed stoneware. Potclays clay, Mayco/Amaco glazes.
I did google and it seems there are many restrictions but I could not find the detail of what I can or cannot post re ceramics.
Thanks.

I have posted a lot of orders to Australia over the years and so far it’s been straight forward. I am sending jewellery though and in small packages (large letter). Things usually clear customs quickly and take about a week to arrive.

As a fellow potter, I think it might be worth checking out Australian regulations with regard to ‘ceramic materials in contact with food’. I know Amaco and Mayco are US brands of glaze and conform to US regulations with regard to lead-free formulation etc, but Australia may have different regs. Obviously if the items you’re sending are not designed for food/drink use then that wouldn’t be a problem, but there may be labelling regulations or other rules. Just a thought!

Ah ok. They are breakfast bowls.

Aren’t you worried about breakages? I have visions of parcels bouncing in the hold of a plane for hours on end. Maybe they handle more carefully than our local delivery people!

No not breakages. But I know there’s restrictions on certain kinds of ceramics but the info is vague

I’ve posted glass suncatchers to Oz several times and taken them in personally without a problem.

I’ve only posted decorative ceramics before labelled as Christmas decorations. There didn’t seem to be any restrictions and all arrived fine.

I posted a card from Bangkok to Melbourne once. The card was handmade. It had seeds stuck to it.
Never thought anything of it until… a couple of weeks later my daugther said she got a strange message from the post office in Melbourne. They had her card but couldn’t allow it in as it had seeds which are forbidden. So they sent her a photo of the card inside and out instead. Brillaint

So don’t put any seeds in your pottery and you should be ok
