Product and Technical Updates

This thread is where we’ll post regular updates on product improvements and technical changes across Folksy — including new features we think you’d want to know about.

It’s a read-only space so we can keep it clear and easy to follow, but we’ll always let you know where and how you can share feedback on specific updates.

Thanks for following along and being part of the journey as we continue improving the platform.

We know search is an important part of how customers discover your beautiful work - and we wanted to share more about the technology changes we’ve been making behind the scenes at Folksy.

We’ve migrated to a more powerful search system to future-proof Folksy and showcase your products better. It’s a change, and while we know it isn’t yet perfect, the good news is customer engagement is already improving - and we’re continuing to tweak, test and improve every day based on real feedback.

We’ve written a full update explaining why we made these changes, what the data is telling us, and the improvements we’ve already made thanks to your feedback and customer behaviour

We have seen an unusual level of traffic from countries including Singapore over the last 5 days, which we believe to be bots. Some of you may have seen this if you have Google Analytics integrated with your shop.

There is no threat, other than it has put quite a lot of pressure on the infrastructure we use to host and manage web visits. We implemented a solution to limit this traffic and today we have seen views return to a more normal range. Bot traffic is still evident but we’ve seen it decline and we’ll continue to monitor the situation to limit bot traffic.

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to let you know that the first of several improvements to your Folksy Stats page is now live!

From today, your Stats page will show views for the past 30 days, rather than just the last 7. This gives you a much more useful overview of how your shop is performing over time - helping you spot trends, measure the impact of your marketing, and see what’s working.

This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, we’ll be rolling out more updates to make your Stats page even more helpful and insightful. Our aim is to give you better visibility of your shop’s performance and empower you with the data you need to grow.

Thanks,
The Folksy Team

Hello,

UPDATE: this feature is now available for all users

We’ve been working on a new feature which we’ve called “Improve Your Shop”. This feature is now live to Plus sellers and we’ll be rolling it out to all users later this week.

You can find the feature from your Stats page.

The feature provides information on how you can improve both the shop and items in your shop. We intend to build on this feature with more useful, actionable information to help you make sales.

New Feature Alert: Scarcity Notices on Product Pages :police_car_light:
We’ve just introduced a new feature on Folksy product listings - and we’d love your input!

From now on, buyers will see messages like “Only 3 available and 1 in basket” on product pages, helping to create a sense of urgency and show when items are selling fast. It’s a small change that can make a big difference, especially during busy shopping times!

But we know that not everything is made in multiples. For many of you, your work is one of a kind, while others might be making multiples but the inventory only showing one item - we want to get the wording just right for those pieces.

This is where we’d love your suggestions…
How would you like scarcity to be shown for one-of-a-kind products?

Would something like “Last one - unique item”, “One of a kind - don’t miss it” or “Only one available” work for you? Or do you have a better idea?

Drop your suggestions to support@folksy.co.uk - we’d love to hear your thoughts and help make this feel as special and personal as the things you make.

Let’s make this work for you :yellow_heart:

Hi everyone,

As many of you will know, we experienced a site outage on Saturday (18th October) which lasted much longer than any of us would have liked. We wanted to share a bit more detail about what happened, what we’ve done since, and how we can help get some of that momentum back.

What Happened

One of our downstream services ran an automatic update which unexpectedly changed the format of a certificate - causing the system to believe it had expired (when it hadn’t). This then had a chain reaction which caused the site to go offline.

As soon as we spotted the issue, our engineer Doug was hard at work investigating and trying to get us back online. The nature of the problem meant it took time to both identify and fully resolve, but everything is now fixed. (Doug even missed his aunt’s 80th birthday party in the process - dedication points well earned!)

What We’ve Done

This was a very rare and unlucky event, and we’ve now resolved it. Outages on Folksy are extremely rare - and getting rarer as we continue to build more resilience and redundancy into our systems. We’ve already made changes to prevent this specific issue from reoccurring and will keep strengthening our infrastructure to make the site as stable as possible.

For a bit of context, even the biggest providers occasionally face similar problems - AWS (Amazon Web Services) actually went down this week, affecting a huge number of major websites across the world. Some things sit outside of any platform’s control, but what we can promise is that we’ll always act quickly, communicate honestly, and work flat out to get things running smoothly again.

How You Can Get a Boost This Week

To help recover some of that lost traffic and visibility, we’ll be doing extra promotion across our channels this week, much of which you’ll already have seen.

One way you can take advantage of this would be if you’re sharing new products on your Instagram Stories, tag @FolksyHQ - and we’ll do our best to reshare as many as possible to give your work a little boost.

Thanks again for being part of this brilliant community.

✨ The Folksy Referral Reward Scheme ✨

We know how much effort you put into bringing customers to your Folksy shop all year - especially over the busy Christmas season! To recognise your hard work, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new feature for Plus sellers that we think you’re going to love…

From now on, when a customer makes a purchase from you within 24 hours of clicking on your unique tracking link, you’ll receive a 50% reduction in your commission (as long as you are a Plus seller) - that’s effectively halving your commission from 6% to just 3%!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • All sellers can access their unique link.

  • Only Plus sellers will receive the reduced commission.

  • The reduction is applied immediately upon checkout and will appear on your billing statement.

To find your unique link, first log into your account then:

  • Visit an item page to copy the product-specific link

  • Visit your shop page to copy the general shop link.

A quick heads up: This feature relies on cookies, so if a customer doesn’t accept them or clears them during browsing, the purchase may not be tracked, and the commission reduction may not apply.

We can’t wait to see how this helps you make the most of your referrals this season!
