I did a silly thing on boxing day, i tripped over a safety gate my other half had just put up to stop the grandchildren going in the kitchen while cooking. I landed on my arm and have fractured the top of it so have decided to shut my shop initially for a couple of weeks. On the plus side i was only in A &E for 3 hours.
Ouch! What a shame. I hope you heal up well, take it easy in the meantime
Thank you @bekokodesigns
Hope you make a quick recovery Valerie.
Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Ouch! Hope you recover soon.
Thank you @Fififoxi
Oh Dear Jenny, what a terrible accident to have.
I don’t think these newer baby gates are high enough! The so called extra higher ones are not even high enough in my opinion. Thankfully, I have really extra tall ones up to my mid chest from when I had an Afghan Hound who could jump over the normal hight ones (no classified as extra high) . I never threw them away when she suddenly passed away. Now I have a 22 month old grandson so ideal across the kitchen door and a high catch so he will not be able to figure out how to open it in a few years time!
I do hope you make a speedy recovery, but it could take up to six weeks to completely form a sound bond, so take it very easy. I used to be a theatre nurse in trauma and orthopaedics, so I know a bit about broken bones. Did they operate by platting the bones together and then but you in plaster or was it a fine hair line fracture which just needed plastering to stabalise the feacture so it could fuse together naturally?
Pleased you didn’t have a long wait in A&E, it’s horrendous at Truro hospital and has been for years well before covid, especially during the peak summer months.
Regards
Gail
Thanks Gail it was the type of gate that opens and has a bar at the bottom it was the bar at the bottom i tripped over as the gate was open.
Went to the hospital Wednesday for a follow-up xray and found out it’s actualy my shoulder l have broken, thought it was the top of my arm as they didn’t mention shoulder when i first went have got it in a collar and cuff at the moment, it was a gt fracture and has not displaced so should heal without surgery. They did say my arm my not lift as far as before because of scar tissue and Will take at least 6 weeks.
Hi Val
That’s grate you didn’t actually break your arm and require surgery. Unfortunately surgery is very rarely operated on if it’s the scapular (front of the shoulder). However, you will land up having limited lifting ability for some time. Just give it time and try not to lift heavy items after six weeks as this will give you unnecessary pain and actually make the tissues healing process longer.

Gail
They have given me some exercises to try and do hopefully will be able to do more as time goes on thank you Gail
I broke my wrist a couple of years ago so fully sympathise with the difficulties of working ANYTHING out with only one hand!
Thank you, yes it is difficult you don’t realise until something like this happens
Hi Val
Just checking in on how you are diddling. How’s the shoulder healing? If it’s not so painful now you can do more of the shoulder exercises the hospital gave you, but don’t over do it. I first i thought you had fallen over the top of the gate whist across the door as I know someone who actually did that! I know the bar at the bottom you are talking about. It’s so easily done to not to just pick your feet up just a little more. My son tripped over on ours once, thankfully he didn’t incure any injuries like yourself.
Keep your pecker up if your feeling a bit down at the moment, which is totally understandable.

Gail
Thank you Gail
My shoulder seems quite a bit better and seems to have a lot more movement. I’m finding the exercises are helping a lot so hopefully wont be to long now. I think I was a bit unlucky how I fell.
Yes the gates we used to have when my two were little you had to climb over them. We had a couple of gates up but have taken them down for now.
