Wishing you all the best for your decision @HandbagsbyHelen. I haven’t had it happen to me but hubby was made redundant three times in about 7 years with no opportunity to reapply for anything so it’s a bit different to your situation. We tried to see it as a positive thing and not to panic if things didn’t happen quickly. I quite enjoyed having him around to do a few household chores for a while! But we were lucky as the first time he got a good payout which cushioned us for the next time! It’s harder if money is a big factor. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you will be able to look back on it as a positive thing whatever you decide x
Just reading your thread and similar thing happened to me, although I only had a little part-time job in a deli. The owners decided to close it and I was therefore made redundant in July. Very strangely a couple of weeks before I left I was approached by Landscape magazine who wanted to feature my Acorn tea cosy. Wow! I finished work on the Friday and the magazine came out the following week and I was very fortunate that the orders came flooding in. I feel as though it was fate. Orders have slowed down now but I’m really enjoying the break from going out to work and doing my own thing from home.
I may have to start looking for a new job in January if orders are slow but it’s been a lovely experience.
Good Luck to you. Claire x
I’ve been made redundant twice in the past. The first time was right at the start of my career so it came as a shock, but the second time it was less of a surprise (company had some financial difficulties). When it happened the second time I had the choice of trying to apply for a new job or trying to make a go of my own business full time - I’d been running it part time (evenings and weekends) for a year. It felt like a huge and scary decision but I decided I wanted to be in control of my own finances, and not rely on an employer (and risk future redundancies). That was three years ago, and although it was stressful at the time, that redundancy was the best thing that has happened in my working life. It gave me a push to make things work on my own terms. It’s not an easy decision, but whatever you decide, good luck!
I was made redundant just over 18 months ago due to the consultant I worked for finding another job. At my age (then 52) I never expected to get another job but within a month, I was offered another job. Love where I work now, closer to home as well, which gives me more time for crafting. They say everything happens for a reason, so hope everything works out for you.
