Royal Mail International Post Halted

I’m wondering how everyone is dealing with the stop on posting internationally. I sell a lot to the US. I’m hoping things are resolved soon but in the meantime are you all keeping your international sales available? How are you planning on sending them?

I stopped shipping to europe because of the packaging laws and stopped everywhere apart from USA because of insurance issues. My sales to USA are sporadic at the moment so I haven’t done anything about removing US shipping from my shop but will probably do that soon. It might be of use to you to investigate transglobal express - they have a service where you can drop parcels off at their hubs, they fly it over to USA and get it through customs before it is handed over to USPS for delivery within USA. It costs a bit more than RM but not as much as a courier however you really need to be able to get to one of their hubs or you have to pay a sizable pick up charge per package.
I’m not sure the issue will be resolved quickly - the problem was caused by a (Russian) ransomware attack, not a quick and easy thing to fix.

I’ve just put on my shop announcement ‘Royal Mail INTERNATIONAL DELIVERIES are currently not available due to cyber issues but we are confident deliveries will resume shortly’.
It sort of covers me in the unlikely event I get a sale overseas.

I sold a bear making kit to Australia but still sat on my desk, i have contacted my customer but on an old email address from a previous order as hus current one bounced back. I havn’t had a reply, just hope he is aware of the situation.
I looked at a couple of alternative couriers but way too expensive, going to look at some others tonight.
Hoping it is sorted soon.

Yes, I’ve put an announcement on my shop too to warn people - it’s worrying that this has been going on for so long now, it’s obviously a major issue.

Its a ransomware attack by Russia - RM either have to pay the ransom to get their system back or generate a new computer system for exporting post. Rumour has it that they are going for the latter (if they were going to pay they would have done it by now) and it will take a minimum of 3 weeks to implement if not significantly longer.

Looks like RM are now accepting International Tracked & Signed and International Signed items again now, although they do also say “We continue to ask customers not to submit any new Tracked or Untracked (Standard/Economy) export parcels into our network just yet”. So it looks as though things are almost back to normal  I’m going to keep the message I’ve got on my shop announcement for now, and probably (hopefully) take it off on Monday.

My local Post Office informed me they weren’t sending overseas at this time - that was just a couple of days ago when I asked for the cost of posting to the USA :woman_facepalming:

Yes I read that. Ive just today been online to organise two parcels to the US with royal mail tracked and signed for. They’ll pick up from my home tomorrow and bring the label with them. So that’s excellent. I did need to get the customers phone number but apart from that it was quite simple.

@GINGERPINEAPPLECRAFTS Royal Mail are accepting post (int. track &sign and int. signed) from business accounts or where postage is bought online. If you set yourself up with a click and drop account you can buy your postage online and then have the postie collect it. They are not accepting it via post offices yet.

Looks like it’s pretty much sorted now, thank goodness - seems that from today they’re able to accept everything except Standard/Economy export parcels: https://www.royalmail.com/international-incident-bulletin

I think post will probably be a bit slow for the next couple of weeks, but at least it looks to be back up and running!
