September Art Chat thread. 2019

And it’s great to see lots of new posters joining us here.
Bet none of us can beat Brenda’s @teabreaks rate of production, though! Super glittery witch card - love those socks…

I need to speed up Helen @HelenCliffordArt I only do 4 an hour at the moment…ha ha x

:open_mouth: Wow…!

I love this picture Helen, it is stunning! I really love the end of Summer and beginning of Autumn (my favourite season) it is still just warm enough and the changes in colour (leaves and landscapes) are wonderful.
I am currently working on some new sketches and hope to add some autumn inspired pieces to Folksy in the coming months!
Hello to everyone else
Just thinking about sketching, It would be interesting to know what inspires everyone and how people prefer to work (in silence, listening to music etc)
Sometimes for me it can be something in nature, like tree branches or beach pebbles other times it is an idea from a book I might have read. I often listen to instrumental music, depending on my mood but I do end up having creative blocks where everything I draw seems to look the same and I can’t get past it. Anyone else have that? It would be really interesting to know what inspires your creations x

thank you Sue @suebeacham …keep painting…I love sea horses x

I’ve spent the evening fiddling with a still life, which isn’t quite ready to list yet. I must admit, I don’t get the same buzz from doing a still life, compared to a landscape, a Cornish beach, or even a tractor (which I suppose is a still life if it isn’t moving!). However, I like to push myself into doing something a bit different once in a while.
Instead, I have just listed this multi buy of four of my tractor themed cards, from my own watercolours.

@ArtilyEverCrafter I tend to have the TV on in the background, but nothing too gripping to make me want to keep looking at the screen (although audio description helps on things like iplayer). If I’m listening to music then it has to be something I’m not too familiar with or it tends to distract me, so it’s a good time to get to know some new albums. I prefer silence when I’m writing though (listings, forum posts…), it must take a different sort of concentration for me.

And as you can probably guess, a lot of my inspiration comes from nature and animals, so if I’m having a creative block then I find a nice country walk can really help… or even just playing with the pets. If that fails then I start to consider it might be time for a holiday. My other inspiration is Ukraine so I count trips there as inspirational research :joy:

I am a big radio fan so normally have Radio 2 or 4 on in the background when I’m working on something.

@konyskiw Hi Kim, thanks for sharing. I really love your colourful artworks, your animals are so engaging!
I am the same when it comes to posting or writing, cannot concentrate unless in silence but I often listen to music when working. Usually instrumental, otherwise I start paying more attention to the songs and start singing which distracts me! Going for walks by the beach and especially a peaceful woodland area, often inspire me too
@teabreaks Hi Brenda. It is interesting hearing people working to music, I have a ‘The Ultimate Musicals’ album which I happily sing along to at times. Having performed a bit myself a few years back now, I still enjoy the singing although I’m too introverted to go back to acting. Much prefer quieter moments with the paintbrush!

Love everyone’s work, and it is lovely to hear about inspiration and processes
I will pop something new on this thread when I have something, still sketching away at the moment x Have a good day all!

don;t be shy…share your work and chat about anything art related.

I spent most of my life performing (such a big show off…lol)…
I danced in shows until I was too old and then had singing lessons and sang. I have done lots of parts in shows…I come from a musical family.
My mum took all the leading parts in show, my dad was always in the chorus and my brother still sings with the BBC symphony chorus and will be doing the last night…is it this weekend?..
I also used to go round the residential homes singing…that was fun too…My favourite types of parts are character parts…The sort of parts that Julie Walters would do…I always refer to them as “Old bag parts!”
This afternoon , I was singing along to Carousel…

the last night is 14th September…I know exactly where my brother sits, so always look out for him x

I now have a vision in my head of you playing Mrs. Overall, or the “two soups” waitress Brenda @teabreaks!
Thanks for your appreciation @suebeacham. I really admire your work too. Your art is varied and diverse.
