My mum and dad are in their 80’s and live miles away from us - it’s looking as though we’re not going to be able to see them for Christmas this year sadly. They’re quite hard to buy for - they’ve downsized so don’t want ‘things’ for the home (they’ve got all the decor, prints and things they could possibly want!), and in the past I’ve often given them a hamper with mostly food and wine in it.
This year I thought I might do something different and try to include things other than foodstuff though… so I’m on the lookout for practical, disposable (ie, edible/useable, if you see what I mean!) things for them both. I’ve got as far as thinking ‘smellies’ and can’t think any further so need all your ideas!! Looking for things at stocking-filler type prices so that I can include a few things in the hamper for them. They only have a shower (no bath), and dad isn’t remotely interested in jewellery/cufflinks. They enjoy wine/coffee/gin, food, walking, anything related to Australia, gardening, and dad loves maps.
What about some of the bees wax cling film alternative wrap things? (picked at random from the selection available https://folksy.com/items/7607847-Set-of-5-reusable-bees-wax-wraps) I’ve found this sort of thing good for wrapping cheese up in so you could always get them some cheese and crackers to go with them.
Another thought I’ve seen a number of different herb label sets - what about one of those and some seeds so they can grow their own fresh herbs (there are lots of options with these https://folksy.com/items/7601522-Oak-Herb-and-Vegetable-Labels-). And since gardening is hard work on the hands a scrubby soap and some hand balm (I recommend the herbal soapmaker or monastery garden soaps for either of those).
We use wind and storm damaged wood to make really beautiful gifts. Well its actually my son Jamie who started th3 W3ird Crafters after college last year! My tiny boxes have been bought to keep a hearing aid in! (no, I know not everyone needs one…) Useful to keep track of other tiny things though…This one has a Mackintosh design, so good for Granny or Grandad
