Got a bit of an unpleasant surprise on IG this morning! My grid looks terrible, all the sides are cropped off my square images. We’re presumably going to need new templates for everything now… Does anyone know what the new proportions are, and should I now be cropping all my listing photos to be taller? Am I the only person here who was unaware (or had maybe just forgotten) this was happening?
If you add your photos as you usually would then press ‘next’, there’s a little box in the bottom left corner to click which gives the choice of picture size. Although they are definitely moving away from squares.
Do you follow Adam Mosseri @mosseri on IG? If you go to his stories today there’s some advice about this and moving away from squares.
Yes me too, I wondered if it was just mine, it looks awful as my photos don’t fit as I crop everytbing square for Folksy and IG. Wish they would just leave things alone, wouldn’t have been as bad if they had said from today they change and then leave the old ones as they were but there wasn’t any warning about it on IG
Thank you. Does the button change the aspect ratio of the picture, though? Or does it add filler to the top and bottom of a square image so the sides don’t get cut off?
It may be that you’re the first set of people who have lost the option for squares. Do you still have the option to add them??
**I just added to my reply above
So we now need to do two sets of product photos, square for Folksy and whatever the shape is for IG? What about Folksy Friday boards, how are those going to work if we’re sharing square photos from Folksy shops… can some clever graphics person come up with a new board design that will work with the new Instagram shape please?
I don’t know, I looked at my grid and it said ‘your photos will now look taller’, I thought ‘taller is very much not the word I would have used to describe what I am seeing here’ and ran away.
Can’t understand why they would do something so fundamental with no announcement but I guess it’s their sandbox…
Well it looked as though mine were chopped off, i had a bear laid down and it’s head and feet don’t fit, didnt look too closely but will go back and look at the full feed.
I know, it’s always a faff getting used to something new. I always use portrait on IG but have at least one main image cropped square for my Folksy main image. I guess it’s been rolling out for quite a while now so most people will be used to it, but definitely lots of people who still love squares.
For info, the portrait ratio is 4:5.
Help this dinosaur out please. Stories are those round things, right? How do I find the most recent one on the guy’s profile? I had a look at a couple and couldn’t find anything about the new format, he is very hot on ‘fostering creativity’ apparently but I wish he’d told us louder and plainer that this change was coming!
It rolled right past me lol!
I know I thought that, another set to store, i already pay for extra storage. Plus extra time changing ratios to fit each. I just last night found how to share images from my Folksy shop to IG from another thread on the forum and it’s all changed. Wonder if Folksy could change to taller images to match.
Thank you, I was hoping the ratio would be a nice simple one!
Go to the beginning (click in his profile image) and just let the stories roll and you’ll get to it. It’s in his q&a feature
Also, I just had a look at my squished square images and once clicked on, they do show up as square.
Thank you!
And I’m sorry that I misunderstood your initial post question x
Gotta be quick …you can stop them moving on by holding your finger in the screen. To go back to the last one by tap the left of the image and forward by tapping the right of the image. X
@LooneySpoons I use PicCollage to make grids - there’s a free version with an annoying logo at the bottom but I paid a few ££ (not many) to have the version without!!! Also Canva free version offers grid templates (I personally hate Canva!) I’m sure there are lots of other apps that will do it but there are the ones I’ve used. X
Im giving up I think, what with bloomin product safety, gpsr or whatever it is, the cost of postage, the time we spend trying to get ourselves seen on SM and all the ridiculous constantly changing crap on Instagram I think this may be the last straw for this old camels back!
My usually lovely photos look utter tripe on Instagram now and I can’t for the life of me get them to be square no matter what button I click……
I have just made some of mine square again…someone told me how to do it.
Click on the three dots at the top of your image on IG then click on ‘adjust preview’ down left land side then at bottom of screen click ‘fit’, it crops them back but leaves a border at top and bottom, you can choose to have a black or white border.
