Summer Exhibition

For everyone saying the ‘Fringe’ feels makes them feel a bit second class please have a thought for those who didn’t get chosen, at the end of the day you’re in the exhibition one way or another, imagine for how it feels to have entered and not been chosen for either?
I couldn’t enter as I’m no longer a Folksy Plus member so it’s irrelevant to me personally but if I had entered I’m pretty certain I would have been delighted to have been selected for either the main event or the Fringe, Folksy have done their best to try and accommodate as many wonderful makers as possible but there’s not much point in having an exhibition of curated items if everyone is included in it, that would be the same as the normal Folksy front page. Be happy, be pleased, be great full you’re getting the exposure and remember, the exhibition is curated by Folksy staff, it’s so subjective who is selected and does not in any way reflect on your amazing work. Just enjoy it.

Personally I am delighted to have one of my pieces in The Fringe.
Not so long ago we were asking for more ‘general’ content to be featured, covering a wider range of shops, instead of extended focus on one or two individuals, and this delivers exactly that.
The timing couldn’t be better either, with recent press focus on problems on ‘the dark side
It can be hoped that this will help get the word out that there is a much better alternative!
I think it is a credit to all of us that @folksycontent found themselves with such a high response to this event, that they felt obliged to create a second event to go with it, and I thank all the staff at Folksy who put in the extra work to achieve that, and I would love to see more like it.
I agree with Debby @Bearlescent that we can use this to learn and improve our own presentation.
It would be nice if we could have a link from the Exhibition to the Fringe, as I can only see a link from the Fringe to the Exhibition?

I think the exhibition and fringe events really highlight why Folksy is such a good place to be. It reinforces the difference between Folksy and other selling platforms.

The exhibitions show Folksy is committed to promoting high standards of art and craft which is genuinely handmade.
Exhibition events show that Folksy maintains a personal touch with its makers (and customers).
The exhibitions provide an additional benefit to ‘plus members’.
They’re fun and inspirational - it gives makers a chance to evaluate and ‘up their game’ and you have something to aim at (apart from sales that is).

All in all the exhibition gets my vote - not only has it been fun and inspiring it will hopefully result in more sales all round.

I am delighted to have been chosen to be part of the Fringe exhibition among so many other lovely things, but I see that I am not the only person who has been featured but with a different product. The earrings that I submitted were pieces I had made very recently, using a technique that I have only recently learned so I was hoping for some feedback. I love the pendant that you chose but…

I was a little surprised (and maybe nobody else had noticed), when someone pointed out to me that there are lots of Exhibition sellers also in the Fringe … and yes I can see there are.
Wonder about the reasoning on that one and maybe more sellers could have been featured in the Fringe if sellers were not getting a double appearance ?

I had noticed that joy, but wondered whether it was because they may be keeping the fringe afterwards as a gift guide so included those

@Beesandblossoms @SilvanaJewellery you’re both right, when we initially put the call out for the Summer Exhibition we did ask people to submit pieces that were the ones they were most proud of, whether or not they were available for sale.

At that stage we didn’t anticipated running the Fringe event but it became clear as we went through all the submissions that we had so many pieces we wanted to include that there just wouldn’t be room for in the show. So that’s where the idea of the Fringe came from.

However, the Summer Exhibition was very time-consuming to put together as everything is set up using different programming and then manually curated to flow well. It wouldn’t have been possible for us to do the same for the Fringe in terms of time, but additionally if we were going to run a sister event we wanted to ensure it felt connected but distinct.

So we developed the idea of creating a selling show by pulling existing listings from Folksy. That meant that in many cases we could include the piece that had been submitted. We didn’t want to exclude work that wasn’t available for sale though, so we went through all the submissions (again a huge job!) and if the items weren’t on Folksy but would have been included in the Fringe, we then selected something else from that shop.

We’ve learned a lot from running this first exhibition that we can incorporate next year. Always learning!

Running it for the first time was always going to show up some learning points but i think both shows are really wonderful and showcase the variety and quality of work available here. Can’t wait to take part next year too!!

I’m intereested to see if inclusion in the exhibition / fringe is actually making any difference to shop visits and actual sales ?.
Because stats are now only on a snapshot basis for the last several days I have been capturing them and also the number of visits to my piece.
My visits are not up at all , possibly even a bit down, and apart from initial visits to my waterlily… from Folksy folk according to the number of  s … My sales here (not elsewhere) are pretty well dead in the water… last one was from a repeat customer who had just been waiting for payday …

Also wondering how the two Exhibitions are getting to the outside world… all the comments I am seeing on IG are from Folksy exhibitors …Is it being promoted in any way… apart from normal SM posts ??

I have definitely seen more interest. More followers on IG. A couple of sales.
I do post updates on IG regularly with links to Folksy as that benefits all sellers on the Folksy platform. Slow and steady is my view! I expect sales to increase as people start to think about Christmas. I also do craft fairs. That brings in extra followers. Craft and Flea are very well organised.

I have had a huge number of views for my drawing which is in the fringe.

I’ve had some respectable views for my Fringe exhibit. Overall views to my shop were up at the start of the week but are now dropping. Instagram views are consistently up this week, but I’ve been quite busy on there, regardless of the exhibitions. Overall, I’m finding it hard to quantify, but it certainly isn’t doing any harm.

That’s interesting. I wonder if the page makes a difference. I’m end of page 3, you are page 1…

Just wondering, that’s all about, the general reach and if it has an effect. We won’t know unless people say.and I think individual feedback for events like this really is important.

Your picture is lovely
