Hi!
I don’t think that greeting cards are ever a bad seller, but there is an ENORMOUS amount of competition so you have to be willing to put the effort in to do lots of marketing and have a bit of a plan about how you’re going to get your cards seen and make cards that people want to buy.
I think that if it’s something that you enjoy doing then you should go for it! Plus you’re much more likely to stick at it if you love doing it.
From my experience, I got a few sales when I first listed my cards and then nothing for ages. But I know that I have to put more work in to get anything out of my shop (and I don’t necessarily make cards that people want to buy! Ie. no ‘Happy Birthday’ cards etc). I always get this feeling of ‘why is nobody looking at that thing I just listed?!?’ especially when I’m so excited about it, but then I remember the enormity of the internet! Haha!
I can’t directly answer your question as I don’t sells cards but I do like stats and these are the ones that folksy published for 2016 (they didn’t do a round up of 2017)
if you scroll down to the best selling categories you’ll see cards is second which is suitably impressive given that the list is ordered by total value of sales and cards aren’t that expensive. So lots of cards get sold but there are currently 14828 cards listed on the sight so you do have to be aware of the competition and make sure you stand out from the masses.
OOh Sasha, that makes very interesting reading.
I was on one of the lists with one of my items being one of the most favourited item…and ACEO’s are in the top ten list of best selling items…made me feel good !
