Theme of the day - favourite things - one item only?

Yes (see pic) - but what I’m not sure about Brenda, is if the tag for one item only out of our shops each month will always be ‘favourite things’ or a different tag - will have to wait to see on that one!

I emailed support about this earlier and here is their response

sorry that’s come out so small.

Joss, @XStitcherJoss I am sure it was posted somewhere…but personally I tend to only look at threads that I am used to using ( like our challenge thread) and so would be very unlikely to have seen it. The same might apply to other people who rarely use the forums. I certainly never saw anything about it…
And Caroline @Caroleecrafts , the same applies here…how many people will bother to go back and remove the tag after today…or even remember to do it.
The only answer is to have a tag with a specific code on it…eg favourite things March 21 ( or something shorter.)
admin will have to have a rethink to accommodate all the options…lol.

Dawn @DawnChorusCreations …I would never have read that…when I see the themes for each month, I just go to the posting and quickly scroll down to see any that might apply…I would never have read the gumph…( naughty of me I know) but I bet there were a load of people who also just quickly go to the list and don’t read any of the extras x

Yes I agree- because one could easily think that the ‘gumph’ (love that! ha ha ) is just info on how to tag for newcomers or anyone who has not done it before.- another good case for having the ‘one item only’ highlighted in the listing!

Hi everyone. We really wanted this to work, as it’s such a nice idea and we would like to persevere with it, but as a lot of you have pointed out, we probably need to be better at communicating how it works and the rules.

It’s tricky because we can’t really add any text anywhere on the listing page where people add tags (there is already lots of information on there). We did try to make it clear when we shared the list here, in the Facebook Group and in the seller email… but we know it’s not always easy to understand - and also that lots of people don’t read everything.

It sounds like I need to find a way to make it super clear, visually.

thanks Camilla.@folksycontent
…I am guilty of not reading the gumph…although I did only tag ONE item.
…I am not sure of the answer to the problem , and yes it was a nice idea…I wonder if under the chosen date there was a highlighted message saying that on THAT particular day…any shop would be permitted to add one item from their shop with the code…xxxx…
.That would mean that this code could not be carried forward to the next time.
Am I making sense?..lol…x

Thanks Camilla. Would it solve it, and act as a reminder, if instead of the actual tag being Favourite Things, the tag we had to use was ‘choose one item only’ I know it’s a long tag but…

@JudyAdams  That could work! Or “my one favourite item”.

Just so everyone is aware, because it seemed to be so easily misunderstood (which is partly our fault for not putting big flashing lights around “one item only”), and because there were so many, I haven’t chased up the people mistagging today. It seemed unfair to be too harsh on them when it was a bit of a trial, we can be stricter once we’ve found a way to make it blindingly obvious.

I think it’d probably get a bit dull if it was favourite thing every month though (I know I don’t change my favourites that often). but if it was to become a regular thing we could possibly work out some similar types of all inclusive tags, such as “my oldest item”, “my trickiest make”, “my bestseller”.

It is a lovely idea Camilla. Could it be say on the 1st of the month perhaps in bold with an asterisk then the rules immediately above it. Perhaps then the rules may be read properly.

I think Brendas @teabreaks idea of a random code as a tag could work well - you might still get a few duplicates due to copied listings but not many and you could change the code every month as well as what it stood for (my favourite/bestseller/oldest item etc). On the tag list it could be shown as eg:

Mon 15th Mar. Favourite Things (ONE ITEM PER SHOP). xx59

@kimfolksy I like that idea of different “my …” each month or every other month maybe.

I apologise for being one of those with multiple favourite things. For me it was an accident as I forgot that a group of my items already had the tag, linked to Mothers Day promotions.
Sorry,!

No need to apologise. When I started this thread I thought that it wasn’t a case of people deliberately being unfair which is why I didn’t want to report anyone. I suggested it was because people were unclear about the one item and that is what turned out to be the case. If you already had items tagged with this then it’s not your fault at all.

Oooh all of this has reminded me I did not remove the Favourite thingy tag from my favourite item in my shop, better go and do it :joy::grin:but I did only tag one item.
Good idea suggested above about “oldest item”, “newest”, trickiest etc…but “Bestseller” wouldn’t be much good to people who make all one of a kind or one off items.
What about keeping it as “my favourite item” but each month it has a number to correspond with the month after it i.e March is “my favourite item 3” that way when we all forget to take the tag out it won’t be picked up next month :relaxed: because April will change to 4

Sorry, I mean this as a genuine question: but why does the item have to be different each month? If I have only one item that is tagged as “favourite things” and it keeps coming up each month, I’m not damaging anyone else apart from myself (as people looking at the items in that list will always see the same item for my shop). So if I forget to change it or don’t have time for it (or any other reason), again it’s me “paying” for it.

Adding a code or number won’t stop people using it multiple times if they want to.

Maybe I’m missing something, sorry if I am.
