Today’s theme tag is Celtic. I have 7 items with the tag Celtic in the Jewellery section. Only 4 are showing and though the other 3 have the correct tag and they are defintely Celtic, I don’t understand why they’re not showing too. I can’t say I’ve noticed this happening before but with only 7 items it was obvious to me this time. Is this a glitch?
Are the tags case sensitive? It looks to be picking up ‘celtic’ all lowercase.
They are not meant to be case sensitive (according to the info on Folksy Knowledge base about taking part in Theme of the Day. But it’s possible the changes for the new search engine is picking up tags differently? I notice the advice on the latest month’s TOFD thread is to to use tags EXACTLY as shown.
Try making them all lower case Silvana. It may take a while to update in the feature.
I guess this could be to do with the work they’re doing to address ‘clumping’ so that we don’t get lots of items from one shop in the results?
No I don’t think so. All of my celtic tagged items are showing - I have 5 in 1 shop and 2 in another. And I loads yesterday for Folklore - more than 10 and they were all clumped together (sorry).
It’s to do with upper/lower case - tags are now case sensitive so you have to use the tag exactly as it is shown in the TOTD list for the month. I just tested it on one of my items - changing celtic to Celtic took it out of search results. Putting it back to lower case put it back in.
I have one piece tagged. Capital C ( as shown when you hit more in the feature !). Just added a lower case too and it has appeared. .that is just stupid .
It’s always been the case that the chosen tag must match exactly to feature in TOTD - for example bees won’t count if the tag is bee. So tags now being case sensitive for this specific feature isn’t the main worry for me as I always check against the monthly list and if necessary amend some listings that I specifically want to be included. But the guidance needs updating if this is ongoing.
Sylvana - it’s probally worth dropping Folksy an email to question this change, as they don’t always pick up things in the forum. I’ll do so too when I get back home.
But it would be a big issue if capitals and plurals are now part of general search, as we really don’t want to have to have duplicates of all search terms. I’m assuming not as that would make search very inflexible, but I’ll question that in my email at the same time.
They are case sensitive. I learned that the hard way. Use lower case.
As I said above my Celtic was not shown. So I added a celtic and it is now there.
BUT Attention to detail is so very very important and saves lots of queries later.
Look here is the theme of the day list – a little c
![]()
But like others I am pretty sure I often get the word on the day by hitting the See More and guess what …yep a big C
So it would be Most helpful if either:
a. Proper attention was paid to the capitalisation to ensure the list and feature are the same
or
b. Capitalisation was excluded from the search… which it is supposed to be !!
This isnt new. They have always (well, since Ive been on here) been case sensitive even though it says in the instructions they arent.
Easily sorted by removing 3 letters, so the instructions read ’ are case sensitive’ instead of ‘are not case sensitive’.
Then it would all make sense and we wouldnt all go through the process of discovering it ourselves.
Perhaps @folksy when youve got a minute, and we appreciate you have been working hard on the search tweaks so spare minutes are hard to come by, perhaps this could be done? Thanks.
We’re sorry about this, the tag pages shouldn’t be case sensitive. There’s an issue at the moment which we’re looking into, and hopefully we’ll be able to get that fixed soon.
Yes but that won’t fix the problem of their showing this one with and without a capital !
No. But I was just thinking of a quick, simple and easy solution going forward. Rather than having to change how the Theme of the Day search analysed tags, in my complete IT ignorance it occurred to me that removing the word ‘not’ from some text might be a quicker and easier task, but I am happy to be wrong, I really dont know. But thought it worth throwing in the idea. Then tags would indeed have to match the TOTD ones exactly, no plurals, spelling errors or capitals. Well, like it is now, only with the instructions matching the reality!
Thanks everyone, I’ve been out for a few hours and have now just changed the tags to lower case and they’re showing. I really do despair, it’s hard enough to get seen as it is, without silly things like this. And - the list of themes has it all in lower case BUT when you click through from Beltame Festival heading on the home screen for the theme of the day, the heading for the photo page has a capital letter in Celtic!
Thanks for this Kim, and for replying so quickly to my email.
This should be working as intended again now, with items with capitalisation and without all being included in the theme of the day pages.
If anyone is still experiencing problems with this, please send a quick email to support@folksy.co.uk to let us know.
