Using the Variations section for the first time

Good afternoon Everyone, I hope your sales are starting to pick up again. Can I ask some advice please?
I’m just relisting some Christmas decorations and have set up the Variations Option. They can be sold individually however It would also be nice to sell them as sets too. When pricing, I’m OK with adding the the addition item cost but my question is, if I have a listing showing photos of 5 different designs, should the price displayed on the main page be the individual item cost or the cost of the complete set? I will be specific in the description that the price shown is per item as I don’t want to confuse the customer or end up having to sell a complete set for the price of one item.
PS/ I haven’t had any sales yet so I don’t know how the payment process really works for individual items let alone sets.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks & Best wishes
Julie.

I’ve just had to spend some time working this out myself… I think the main price has to be the lowest as when you add an option the amount you put is how much more this option will cost, not how much it is in total. So if all your options are the same price then the variation amount is set to zero. I think that’s right… You can see how I’ve done it to add earrings to my pendant here https://folksy.com/items/7299908-Turquoise-glass-pebble-pendant if you click on the choose options button. Although I’ve just noticed the heading is ‘personalise your item’ which isn’t really relevant, am off to see whether that can be changed!

Thanks for your help Helen, I’m thinking the same as you because the first item didn’t request a price and the price for the additional items makes up the total cost.

Thanks for the reply, Lovely pendant by the way.
