Whats Wrong?

Im really disheartened, is my work that bad? I can figure out why only one sale since I have been on Folksy? just someone give me a pointer please. Thanks in advance xx

Your work is lovely however your descriptions and tags are letting them down. The folksy algorithm looks at titles/ description/ tags to decide if an item should be shown in the search results, google’s algorithm uses titles and descriptions. So if we look at your glass beach hut the description simply reads ‘A little Beach hut made from fused glass’ and it has no tags so anyone looking for coastal inspired decor pieces isn’t going to see it as the algorithm isn’t going to know to show it to them. This section from the folksy blog should help you brush up your listings so that they get found.

Love your items. Maybe you could make more use of your social media accounts? Share your posts to the Folksy Shop group on facebook, and join a few more groups to showcase your work. On instagram interact with other folksy sellers to increase your reach.

Also showcase your items here on Talk Folksy. Hope this helps.

The glass beach hut is beautiful! But I agree with Sasha, use more tags, and make sure you’ve got all of the important information (such as measurements) in your descriptions.

When filling out the description be as detailed as possible, remember potential customers cannot feel the item only a photo.

Sadly I too became disheartened and took all my items out of my shop and sold them all through my other outlet (No not Etsy) I like the ethos of Folksy but whats the point of the items just sitting doing nothing in my shop. My shop is currently in holiday mode, but who knows I may be back.

I think your pictures look great but you should write a little bit more about each item as that will give the buyer a better idea of what they are purchasing. You should also make use of your tags on each item. This said, this alone won’t be enough, you will also need to drive customers to your shop via multiple social media streams. It didn’t use to be this way, but over the last two years I have seen my sales slowly dry up and I’m not going to advertise my folksy shop on social media when I can use that to advertise my website, where I wont have to pay commission on sales. All the best with your shop though

Thanks Caroline, I do tend to get stuck on descriptions, I think ill make a checklist so I don’t miss anything out xxx really appreciate all your help xx

Its so tough, honestly I feel very overwhelmed with it, but I must say I am amazed at how helpful people have been, I’m going to have another go with a fresh set of eyes now, I do hope you get your mojo back, wishing you all the luck in the world xxx

aww thank you, I honestly never knew on how much you had to do, I have a lot of homework to catch up on lol! and learn about tags as well, thanks so much for your help I really do appreciate it x

A good piece of advice I received was to write your descriptions as if you’re describing something to a blind person. Every detail needs to be included - colour, size, use, etc. Wishing you the best of luck.
