Who favourites you?

Hi there. I’ve been here a while now and have noticed that the vast majority of my item and shop favourites are coming from fellow sellers, whilst on E$#y, all my favourites are from visitors/buyers. While it’s always lovely to be favourited, other sellers rarely, if ever, buy from me (although I know some do buy regularly from each other). Is this also your experience? I’m thinking this either means I’m not getting seen by potential buyers or they just don’t like my stuff! Do you have suggestions on how to improve this? Do favourites actually work in getting you higher in the rankings? Any and all thoughts and experiences welcomed! Becca

Visiting and loving each other’s items helps to keep you higher up the front page.

I use sm, not as much as I should. Currently reading a book on Instagram got as far as you have to post daily and make sure you add hashtags etc.

Hi. Yes, Instagram is baffling! I keep coming and going on there, but I think consistency is key on insta. Good to know favourites work for ranking on here. Thanks Caroline.

I have not had a huge number of sales from strangers… maybe 10… but not one of them have favourited anything before they bought it so I am not sure that people favouriting/not favouriting means much really…Like you, most of my likes come from threads where you like each other’s stuff. But, if it helps to move your items higher in the listings then that is probably worthwhile.

Most of the people who favourite my items probably do have shops, or have empty shops so may have had one in the past. However the people who buy from me who don’t have shops usually buy as a guest, so it’s not possible for them to favourite items.

I don’t necessarily think that you’re not getting seen, but that a lot of people browsing Folksy don’t see the need to create an account. That other site had been popular for quite a long time before they introduced guest checkout, so it may just be that more people have an account there because they had to create one to buy.

Items that have recently been favourited get shown in the “popular right now” section of the home page (although I rarely ever scroll down that far, so I’m not sure how much a few seconds/minutes there would actually help you be seen).
For a general search the results are about relevancy, so titles/descriptions/tags are much more important than having favourites.

Hi Kirsty. You are one of the lucky ones!! I think I’ve had 1 sale to another seller (I do buy a lot on here tho!) but a sale is a sale!! I will continue in the forums as I like the sense of community and enjoy supporting/being supported by other sellers. I was just curious really, to see if that was a common experience of being favourited mainly by other sellers and whether it boosted your shop.

I hadn’t thought of the fact that guests can’t favourite! Very true that the other side has a lot more ‘members’ too.

Favourites don’t work towards search result ranking (on folksy), they do give you the opportunity to get on the front page as there is a section there (towards the bottom) for ‘popular right now’ which is filled with items that have recently be favourited.
When I’m favouriting it probably means I’m picking pieces for a folksy friday grid, if I’m buying (for myself) I do tend to just buy. I think because of the price point of my pieces I get a lot of favouriting so that people can mull over what is a considered purchase - sometimes they come back and buy the piece, sometimes its a different piece, sometimes they just covet from afar. I know I have sold to other sellers but it does tend to be non sellers who buy my work.

Most of my favouriting is also from fellow sellers but 90% of my sales are from non Folksy shop owners. Most of the people who buy from me don’t favourite things in my shop.

@SashaGarrett Yes, when I favourite it might be in preparation for creating a Folksy Friday, selecting possible gifts for someone where I might pick a few items and then think it over and make a decision a few days/weeks later, making a note of something I think someone else might like and want to show them later, or saving something I personally like. Then it might be something I appreciate but don’t have the money for, something I like but isn’t quite me enough to buy (but it might remind me to check the shop again in the future) or something I’m considering buying, but might want to think it over/select out of a few things/wait for money (there are times I think “if I sell something then I’ll buy this”).

Which means as someone with a shop, I have plenty of reasons for favouriting an item, and only some of them might result in a sale… but I’m definitely not an impulse buyer, so there are times I might favourite something and years later finally think “I might buy that” :joy:

@Caroleecrafts I post daily on Instagram and it is definitely true my reach and numbers have increased since doing so. Tags too have a huge impact on reach. I have recently gone back to Pinterest and although I don’t post daily on there, I have found that my view numbers in my folksy stats from Pinterest have increased. More views is more chance of sales in my book. I have found that having a lot of items in my shop has increased my sales too. In answer to @Bimblebird I don’t tend to go by favourites, I look at the “views” in my shop stats and what has been viewed to see what may be popular.
